"Lunar Air Traffic," or " An Airbus, a Cessna, and a Boeing walk into a bar." (working title)

Before you start shouting, "THIS IS FAKE," this is, in fact, a composite using the LOT Polish Airlines Moon flyby (I posted a slightly later frame last night) as a base frame. It started as an experimental image and an attempt to show just under 7 minutes of activity Saturday night, and it's grown on me quite a bit since I assembled the first version. It needs a bit of explanation, and along the way, it might give context to these shots.

I was focused mainly on the flights headed toward Miami International Airport (MIA) because they usually fly nearly directly over my house in a (generally) north-to-south heading. Using The Photographer's Ephemeris, I knew the waxing Moon would pass over the route (from my home-based perspective) starting at ~5:20 pm until maybe 5:45 pm. Using Flightradar24.com, I could see three flights might be overhead in that time window.

For this composite, I've aligned each of the frames on the Moon, which is moving East to West or from right to left, narrowing the gap between the flight route and the Moon as time passes.

The first plane to arrive overhead was the one to the far left, arriving at 5:26 pm; it was close enough that I could get it and the Moon in a 700mm frame, which meant anything arriving after would be even closer. At 5:31 pm came the Cessna jet, which meant the Boeing 787 I had been watching for quite a while was in play. It arrived at 5:33 pm, close enough that if it were delayed even 90 seconds, it'd have likely passed directly in front of the Moon.

Unfortunately, there wasn't anything in the route behind the 787 for another 20 minutes, and by then the Moon was too far West and, thus, far from the flight route.

Flight details:

1. An Airbus A321-231 (reg N668NK) operated by Spirit Airlines. Flight 941 was traveling from Raliegh-Durham (RDU) to Miami (MIA) at 36,000 feet and 441 knots. (far left)

2. A Cessna 525B Citation CJ3+ (reg N701JS) operated by FlyExclusive, LLC. Flight 701 was traveling from Augusta (AGS) to Ocean Reef (OCA) at 38,229 feet and 440 knots, probably after a day at the Master's. (middle)

3. A Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner (reg SP-LSG) operated by LOT Polish Airlines. Flight LO29 was traveling from Warsaw (WAW) to Miami (MIA) at 37,378 feet and 499 knots. (far right)

D-IQQQ Cessna 525A Citation Jet CJ2. Biggin Hill 10 Oct 22

To celebrate the grand opening of the new Area 51 Runway at Brickworld Chicago next week, I built this classic black CIA jet as featured in the American Dad episode “Camp Refoogee.”

The CIA is a popular target for conspiracy theorists so naturally “The Company” jet is shown secretly moving guns, drugs, and prisoners for interrogation. It features full interior and exterior lighting courtesy of Brickstuff, as well as custom stickers. I’ll leave it up to the viewer to determine whether or not this plane is just a modification of the Lego Town VIP jet, or an EXTRAORDINARY RENDITION of a classic government aircraft..

The Lego Area51 exhibit features scenes from over 30 classic Science Fiction Movies and Television shows.

Never fails with this Airline.Since the birth of JetBlue,I have flown with them and somehow their flights are always delayed...

Rolls Royce RB 211 Fan as an art installation at Chatsworth House, 2012

This fan of a jet engine was presented to the Duke of Devonshire by Rolls-Royce plc . It was made by apprentices at their Derby works .

The RB211 engine has been installed on many types of aircraft but first appeared on an Eastern Airlines, Lockheed TriStar in 1972. After a troubled birth it has matured into a highly reliable engine and has powered a multitude of aircraft types. It made Rolls-Royce Plc into a world leader in the design and manufacture of jet engines .

The original claims of a possible 50 years of continuous development should prove to be true in a year or so , albeit in its successor the Trent engine. This can be found in service with todays most succesful airliners such as the Airbus A330, A340, A350, A380 and Boeing 777 and 787

Allegheny Bac,s were a common sight back in the late 70s and early 80s here in CLE.These little jets were the loudest passenger planes on takeoff and would shake everything around....A classic aircraft ..............Aug 1979

I believe this is a Dessault Falcon. One of the largest corporate jets.

New York Central railroad experimented with jet engines in the 1960s. One successful outcome from those tests was the snow jet.

These machines utilized the engines from retired jet airplanes. The NYC built the cab and rolling gear in their shops. Rumor has it that Don Wetzel, engineer and pilot of the NYC M-497, holds the patent on the snow jet.

Once completed. the jets were distributed among yards along the mainline where snow falls were heavy. Snow jets can clear entire yard leads of snow and ice in a fraction of the time it takes armies of maintenance forces to accomplish. To see one in action is amazing.

It truly sounds like an airplane is about to land in the yard. When a snow jet is in use, personnel from all departments stay well in the clear. Rocks, spikes, and anything else on the track get tossed around like tin cans.

Chicago has several snow jets within the terminal. I have not seen one operate in years. as major snow storms on the western edge of the Great Lakes are few and far between. This jet is serviceable if the call for duty comes. Until then, the yard tracks at 55th Street is where it resides.

The good time airline's got the blues. Ok, I was not stuck on the runway, but I can still make fun of them

Bought for the JET 11 service to Inverness Airport, this pair of Enviro300 were transferred in for the 747 service, spec wise ideal with luggage capacity for the 747 but apparently disliked by drivers for ability to reach the speeds needed on the AWPR to maintain timetable and as such were appearing on other routes.

Not sure if they are being put back on the route now the timetable is more generous, bust 27602 is seen here on the 747 at Aberdeen International Airport for Ellon today, just 3 mins late on this run.

Departing Phoenix, AZ on March 6, 2014.

"S/N" is the aircraft's serial number. "L/N" is a Boeing code denoting what order the airframe came off the production line. "F/N" refers to an individual airline's fleet numbering system. Not all airlines use a fleet number; not all manufacturers use a line number.
