A penumbral lunar eclipse occurs when the Sun, Earth and moon are imperfectly aligned. When this happens, the Earth blocks some of the Sun's light from directly reaching the Moon's surface and covers all or part of the Moon with the outer part of its shadow, also known as the penumbra. In London the eclipse started at 17:07, maximum eclipse at 19:10 and ended at 21:12. Slightly cloudy and misty throughout. Captured in London, England. January 2020.

It’s the 13th January 1982, and The UK in the grip of one of the harshest Winters it has experienced for some years. With temperatures regularly dropping down to minus 20 degrees and with ice and snow covering much of Britain, driving conditions remained treacherous throughout the day and night.
In blizzard conditions, WMPTE Northern Counties bodied Daimler Fleetline 4026 (VOH 26J) stands outside the Technical College in St Peters Street, Walsall. It’s more than likely that she’s a spare bus, brought down from Birchills Garage to cover for other vehicles in case of a breakdown at the bus station - St Pauls Bus Station, being situated just across the road from where 4026 is parked.
Away from Britain's snow and ice, a massive search had been launched 4 days earlier, involving rescuers from four different countries, when the Prime Minister’s 29-year-old son, Mark Thatcher, had gone missing while taking part in the Paris-Dakar Rally. Along with two team-mates, they’d lost their way and the car they were driving broke down. All were found safe and well 2 days later on 15th January.
Meanwhile in UK, a second season of Brian Truman’s and Mike Harding’s ‘Danger Mouse’ was enjoying a second season on our televisions. On the 13th January 1982, in ‘Close Encounters of the Absurd Kind’, Danger Mouse and Penfold follow Baron Greenback’s trail to the Bermuda Triangle, but are captured by aliens as part of a strange experiment!
Within four months of this picture being taken, in April 1982, Britain would find itself at war with Argentina, following Argentina's invasion of the Falklands Islands in the South Atlantic. Over 900 soldiers on both sides would lose their lives in this action before the conflict ended, following Argentina's surrender in June 1982.

Державний гімн України:
Ще не вмерла України і слава, і воля,
Ще нам, браття молодії, усміхнеться доля.
Згинуть наші воріженьки, як роса на сонці.
Запануєм і ми, браття, у своїй сторонці.
Since its foundation as the cave monastery in 1051, the Lavra has been a preeminent center of Eastern Orthodox Christianity in Eastern Europe. Together with the Saint Sophia Cathedral, it is inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The monastery complex is considered a separate national historic-cultural preserve (sanctuary), the national status to which was granted on 13 March 1996. The Lavra is not only located in another part of the city, but is part of a different national sanctuary than Saint Sophia Cathedral.

Waiting around in the office after my allergy shot. There is one other lady in the waiting room with me.
Thought process, "This book is boring."
"I wonder if she'll think I'm strange if I bust out my camera and start taking photos of my legs."
"Then again, I am wearing red and gray striped socks and boots."
"Hell, what do I care .. she just talked to herself .. out loud."

Wolf Moon - January.
Amid the cold and deep snows of midwinter, the wolf packs howled hungrily outside Indian villages. Thus, the name for January's full Moon. Sometimes it was also referred to as the Old Moon, or the Moon After Yule. Some called it the Full Snow Moon, but most tribes applied that name to the next Moon in February.
Created from two exposures, as having the clouds that bright washed out the moon.
So a separate, faster exposure was taken of the moon on it's own then blended together with the slower cloud exposure.
EXIF data reads for the faster shot.
It was just two days after the first Facebook organized protest on 25 January had brought the first mass crowds to Tahrir Square. Opposition spokesman and Nobel Peace Prize winner Mohammed El Baradei was arriving back in Egypt from Vienna.
As soon as he came into view people from every direction rushed towards him almost knocking down the walk through metal detector. Moments after this photo was taken two journalists started to fight in the jostle to get close to him. Baradei looked a little tired but was met with great appreciation and was cheered as he left in a car.
Earlier at Vienna Airport, prior to leaving for Egypt, he'd told reporters that Presdient Mubarak should step down - ""He has served the country for 30 years and it is time for him to retire".

Photo taken the weekend of January 30th-31st, 2016, whilst my English wife Theresa Jane Brown and me were visiting friends in Limni, Evia island.
LIMNI - ΛΙΜΝΗ
Limni, on the island of Evia, is a small port, beach and tourist resort, which is beautiful the whole year round. It is located 80 km NW of Chalkida and about 150 km from Athens.
The island of Evia lies along the Eastern coast of Central Greece, and is accessible to the mainland via two bridges, an old wooden bridge and a contemporary suspension bridge. There are also frequent ferries to several parts of the island. It is 175 km long and is the second largest island in Greece, and the third largest in the Eastern Mediterranean.

The Venetian Strait is one of the branches of the Dnieper in the territory of Kyiv, which separates from the Desenka and flows into the Rusanivska Strait. It separates Dolobetskyi (on the right in the photo) and Venezianskyi (photographer's place) islands.
In 1966, a reinforced concrete Venetian Bridge was built across the Venetian Strait, connecting Dolobetsk Island with the Venetian Island.

Winter casts its icy grip over Multnomah Falls in a rare display. I finally managed to actually get out to the Columbia Gorge on a cold & blustery afternoon to see it for a change. Getting there, was an adventure in-and-of itself! :-)
If it were a perfect world, I would gladly leave my normally unobtrusive watermark off in a corner. But sadly, it is not. And so I am forced to now place it front & center to discourage dishonest people from image theft and cropping watermarks. My apologies to image loving fans everywhere...I trust you will understand. Help fight this by reporting such abuses immediately!

2nd January 2011 - What a rainy day it was today. Over here today was still a bank holiday and it would have been nice to be able to get outside for a while. Instead, as it was raining all day (and I was able to take this aquarel photo of the local petrol station), we stayed inside and had friends over for coffee and cake.
On January 3, 2009, 20 to 25 thousand people demonstrated in Paris to condemn the killings of Palestinians in the Gaza strip by Israel since the beginning of the offensive on Dec. 27. Similar demonstrations took place in other French cities. Spirits were high, and the organizers had a tough time maintaining order.
Incidents broke out around 5pm in St Augustin, where the rally ended, when approx. 200 to 300 people started attacking the police with stones, bottles, etc. as well as vandalizing cars, storefronts, phone booths, bus stops, etc. all the way to the Opéra. 3 or 4 cars were burnt down, others flipped upside down, and dozens had their windows smashed.
While many protesters complained and tried to stop the violence, some also attacked the photographers (sometimes physically), accused of showing the "wrong" side of the event.
Here, a photographer is about to be punched by a "protester".
