January 16, 2010 - Day 79 of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Torch Relay.
The torch traveled through Three Hills, AB today, 1/2 a block from my home! My son and I traveled to Trochu (a neighboring town) to see it there first, and then quickly drove back to Three Hills at 2 different locations to get some more photos. Had to be quick as the torch was only in Three Hills for 14 minutes. This is one of my favorites as the torch was being lit and ...passed on to the next runner.
I was quite surprised by the amount of security that traveled with the torch entourage, complete with local police escort down the highways!

January Fire ... anyone know what this is? I found it on a fallen branch in our yard. It's every bit as HOT HOT as it looks - almost neon orange/red. A fungus? Sap? Future amber?

January afternoon on the Pacific Ocean, looking north at the cliffs off Three Mile Beach, a remote beach three miles north of Santa Cruz, California. These are seastacks of Miocene Mudstone. Massive sea cliffs of Santa Cruz Mudstone are capped with a thick alluvial cover and marine terrace deposits. This is a 2.5 second exposure through a 9-stop neutral density filter.

The fourth annual Palm Springs Playboy Golf Scramble took place at Eagle Falls Golf Club at Fantasy Springs Resort in Indio on November 11th and 12th 2010.
Tournament players enjoyed a private pairings party in the LIT lounge of the resort Friday, and the scramble-style golf tournament on Saturday alongside Playboy Playmates and Girls of Playboy Golf.
This year, the six Playboy Playmates serving as the event hostesses included: Jennifer Pershing (Miss March 2009), Kimberly Phillips (Miss September 2009), Jaime Edmonson (Miss January 2010), Heather Rae Young (Miss February 2010), Amy Leigh Andrews (Miss April 2010), Shanna McLaughlin (Miss July 2010).

It was a peaceful protest calling for the abolition of ICE and an end to Republican-sponsored violence and harassment. Resist!

It's the last day of the holidays for all of us. Tomorrow the girls are back at school, I'm back at work and K returns to work on a night shift.
We made the most of our last day together for a while by getting out into the sun and walking round the Botanical Gardens. We went for lunch, caught some pokémon and I took my camera. It's been a lovely way to end the holidays, although I'm not looking forward to having to plan this evening.

We had a trip up to York today so the girls could do a bit of shopping with their Christmas money. They came home with 2 Beanie Boos (The O) and 2 books (La Teeny).
The weather was a bit grim, so it didn't inspire many photographs, but I dod take a few of the gargoyles at the Minster.

We took the enfants to see Incredibles 2 this morning. The O insisted on bringing along her unicorns and you can see her best-loved one in this shot.
1/366 January 1, 2020 We normally take the ferry into Noosa on New Year's Day, but have decided to break with tradition, have a quiet day, and do the ferry trip tomorrow when it will be less busy, theoretically. Happy New Year!! Can never resist this hibiscus in our garden which is producing new flowers daily...

Big wave surfer Jeff Rowley ‘paddles-in’ to historic 50-foot plus (15m+) waves at Peahi “Jaws” and becomes the first Australian to ride the waves without Jet Ski tow-in.
Rowley and his girlfriend/videographer Minnie Vuong, from Torquay Victoria, have based themselves in Hawaii for three months to catch and document the monster North Pacific winter storm surf.
Rowley and Vuong flew from the island of Oahu to Maui Tuesday night, and arrived at the infamous Peahi ‘Jaws’ cliff top before sunrise to see the 50-60 foot waves (15-18m) for the first time.
The surf at Peahi, aka “Jaws”, is considered the worlds biggest and most dangerous and until recently has been considered impossible to catch and ride without the use of a jet ski ‘tow-in’ and foot straps.
Rowley and a small group of big wave surfers including Shane Dorian and Garret McNamara pushed the boundaries of big wave surfing by refusing to ‘tow-in’ and choosing to ‘paddle-in’ to the monster waves.
“The waves were moving about 50k’s an hour and the wind was absolutely howling so every instinct is telling you it cant be done, but we did it- its unbelievable” Rowley said.
In doing so Rowley became the first Australian surfer to paddle into the infamous waves at Jaws.
“I’m so proud to be the first Aussie to paddle in at Jaws, it was a historic day and we pushed the limits and survived”.
During the historic session Rowley rode a special 10’2” (3m) Al Merrick quad fin surfboard designed for 30-40 foot (10-12m) waves, but it nearly wasn’t enough.
“My 10’2” is my biggest board but Jaws is so big and so powerful it felt like I was riding a toothpick- I need an 11 foot plus board!”
Rowley and other surfers surfaced from wiping out under the waves thanks to buoyancy jackets and a new emergency inflatable airbag wetsuit.
“Having a buoyancy jacket and the emergency inflatable wetsuit definitely gave me piece of mind that I would surface after a wipe-out, I don’t want to surf big waves again without one.”
Rowley’s biggest ride involved a vertical freefall take off from the top of a wave, which could have ended in disaster.
“I was going to catch that wave no matter what happened, it was massive and I was in the right position and it was my time to go for it.
“I stood up and the wind hit me and tried to rip my board from under my feet as I started freefalling, I couldn’t see a thing but I pushed down as hard as I could and made the ride.
“It was like trying to catch and ride a Tyrannosaurus Rex with your bare hands- the best thrill but you’re so glad to be alive”.
Rowley’s biggest wave fulfilled his personal ‘Charge For Charity’ quest to paddle-in to a 50-foot wave whilst raising money for Breast Cancer Australia.
“I caught the biggest wave of my life and achieved my goal wave height- now I am asking people to donate.”
Rowley’s rides from Jaws will be entered into the 2011-12 Billabong XXL Global Big Wave surfing awards.

I have always wanted to try and do a floating picture.. so this is my first time doing it and i like it a lot i hope i can get better at it!! :]
