Unique in its diversity within a small region, the embroidery of the Epirus region of Greece and the islands of the Aegean and Ionian Seas provides an insightful look at the relationships between textiles and culture. The geographical position of the area along trade routes opened the region to many influences, including Venetian, Ottoman, Greek and Italian, from the 17th to the 19th centuries. The textiles were created by brides and their families for their dowries, and include colourfully-embroidered bed tents, bed curtains, large covers, pillows, handkerchiefs and panels from women's clothing. Designs range from geometrical patterns to whimsical floral and animal motifs in a range of colours and designs, using a variety of techniques.

The Benaki Museum gives a panoramic view of Greek history from the Stone Age (7000 BC) to the 20th century, by way of Classical Greece and the eras of the Byzantine and Ottoman empires. Over 20,000 objects are laid out in chronological order in 36 rooms, showing the evolution of Greek painting, sculpture and handicrafts

Erik Törner is a Tibet analyst from IM who last visited Tibet in January 2011.
Tradruk or Trandruk Temple, also written Changzhug Monastery in the Yarlung Valley is the earliest great geomantic temple after the Jokhang - and some sources say it is even pre-dates the Jokhang.
It was founded by the great Tibetan king Songtsen Gampo, and was part of a series of demonsubduing temples. Trandruk pinned down the left shoulder of the demon.
King Trisong Detsen made it one of three Royal Temples.
The monastery was badly destroyed during the Cultural Revolution.
I visited Trandtruk and Tibet in January 2011.
It was a cold time, hardly no tourists visit Tibet in winter time. On the other hand, as it is too cold to work for both farmers and nomads, they traditionally have a month of and go on pilgrimage. Thereby, all sights where filled with Tibetans, mostly from the countryside.
Dressed up for the occasion, and very curious to meet Westerners, they made it worth sleeping without heat or electricity in below zero temperatures.

January 16, 2011. I can't believe this is already the 50th day of my 365 project!
I had a day of photography planned, but for some reason it didn't go as planned... Had to do some chores around the house, went to visit my parents, had to prepare for my vacation (nly one more week and i'm off! Let the countdown begin!!) and after dinner some friends came over for a surprise visit. And then the day was already over.
So I had to do a quick photoshoot. Too bad, cause I really wanted to do something nice for my 50th! I took this picture for today's Daily Shoot assignment:
"Today's theme is blue. Make a photograph dominated by the color or that otherwise illustrates the theme"
First, I tried a few other subjects. As I was walking around the house, I was trying to find something nice and blue, but nothing worked. I've been meaning to do a picture with paint for a while now, I thought this would be perfect for today's subject. So here it is: BLUE!
The trio of Jupiter (highest and brightest), Saturn (at lower right and dimmest), and Mercury (at lower left) in the evening twilight on January 10, 2021. Mercury was a magnitude and a half brighter than Saturn, and did appear so this night as it was higher than the night before.
Jupiter was naked eye, and Mercury barely so, and only knowing just where to look. But Saturn was a challenge even in binoculars, as it was in and out of view.
This is a single exposure with the 200mm Canon lens and Canon EOS Ra.
I shot this from home in Alberta at latitude 51° N, so the planets were very low. I added labels to this version.
From January. Thought it would be appropriate to post this now considering the last self portrait I uploaded.
Winter presents all kinds of interesting challenges as a photographer. The cold, snow, and ice all provide risks and rewards. I decided to brave those elements recently and hiked through a foot of powder to the top of a ridge near Durango, Colorado. My reward was quite special. The last light of the day kissed the top of 12,968 ft. Engineer Mountain while the soft pink light at the end of the day illuminated the snow below in Animas Valley.

On January 3, 2009, 20 to 25 thousand people demonstrated in Paris to condemn the killings of Palestinians in the Gaza strip by Israel since the beginning of the offensive on Dec. 27. Similar demonstrations took place in other French cities. Spirits were high, and the organizers had a tough time maintaining order.
Incidents broke out around 5pm in St Augustin, where the rally ended, when approx. 200 to 300 people started attacking the police with stones, bottles, etc. as well as vandalizing cars, storefronts, phone booths, bus stops, etc. all the way to the Opéra. 3 or 4 cars were burnt down, others flipped upside down, and dozens had their windows smashed.
While many protesters complained and tried to stop the violence, some also attacked the photographers (sometimes physically), accused of showing the "wrong" side of the event.
Here, kids tried to break away from the main cortege in order to reach the Israeli embassy but they ended up running in circle and back to St Augustin. Jumping cars and smashing a few side-mirrors was also part of their program...

So i have my own studio now :]
I just have to paint it and then im done!
I amm soo happy! I just want a good system now
so i can play music while i do my shoots!
This past weekend was the perfect winter weekend for getting out and shooting some winter scenes. The temperature was in the mid 50 Fahrenheit (that is +10 Celsius to us Canadians) with little, to no wind. We meandered our way into Heart Lake for a two hour hike along the trail that runs parallel to Old Heart Lake Road. The waning sun was just starting to set and the days light was getting more and more obscured by clouds.
The sky had turned a light blue with grey overtones as we came to the edge of the now completely frozen lake. The scene before us looked like a group of seven painting. We debated whether Emily Carr, Lawren Harris or Tom Thomson would best have portrayed this amazing scene before us. I am sure any one of them would have captured this scene beautifully.
