we held our last christmas round the candles. while they went up to the dining hall i practiced the song on the piano to surprise them with playing for a loud final rendition.

a better day. made a phone call, got a ball rolling. boys zipped through their jobs after school, I did some sewing, imogen did tiny math problems on her tiny abacus (I like to pretend that, anyway). spaghetti for dinner.

Great grey owl with his catch - a vole.

I watched and followed this big guy for over an hour as he moved from tree clump to tree clump hunting and I was lucky enough to get to witness him successfully catch and devour this vole. So thrilling!

Tape together a bunch of empty toilet-paper rolls, cover them in wax paper, and attach them to a TV screen, and you have a really cool light show. It doesn't show up at all in a photo, but the tubes all light up different changing colors. Trust me, it's nifty.
