I got her on sale a couple of weeks back and i was always intrigued by this sculpt- androgynous and strong, which upon arrival , it confirmed all my expectations. the sculpt is surprisingly detailed and easy to work with though quite ginormous lols. She is wearing a leatherette empire gown, with shoulder sculpture details and a filigree headpiece all inspired by Cherlize on Snow White and the Huntsman.

Happy Thanksgiving for My American Flickr Friends !

One of my first HDRs, and still one of my favorites. Reposted here due to the calamitous destruction of data triggered by my irresponsible use of the new Aperture 3.0 Flickr synchronization feature. Never again...

Another distant fly by on board. The only Gull in the species Pagophila, the beautiful Ivory Gull is sadly classed as near threatened. The genus name Pagophila is from Ancient Greek pagos, "sea-ice", and philos, "-loving", and specific eburnea is Latin for "ivory-coloured", from ebur, "ivory".

Ivory Lake Hut. Built by the Met Service in the 1960s for climate and glacier research and now a classic and isolated tramping destination, this hut takes you back in time with its collection of quirky artefacts and old magazines. There's not much left of the glacier the hut was built to research!

Ivory head, hands and feet. The head is not solid ivory. A small part of the back pate was removed and replaced with a wooden addition. Fiber hair, metal crown of thorns and vestments original. The base is definitely not original. The cross may be a later addition as well.

"Every landscape - forest, river or mountain - is the work of the mind. A repository of the memories and obsessions of the people who gaze upon it."

Easily the hottest day of the summer. Her hair wasn't meant to be tied, it was just too hot to function otherwise. I usually have my models with their hair down, but this works rather beautifully here.

This box was inspired by some Gothic ivory carvings I saw at The Cloisters in NYC this August. The box ended up a lot more Baroque though.

This design uses the third clip hinge pattern.

Today my father was released from the hospital after a three week stay. He promised the pretty nurses and nice doctors that he would be a good boy and take his medication, use his new walker and eat regular meals. He is now home and back to his old ways. My poor mother, who has her own health problems, is in despair. I guess we'll go back tomorrow and try and cajole him and try not to throttle him. This situation has really made me aware of my shortcomings. I am impatient, short tempered, selfish, and sharp tongued. How people choose to work in healthcare is beyond me. My photography has become my refuge. If my photos suddenly stop, it will because I'm in the looney bin or in an orange jumpsuit in women's prison :) :(

More of the Ivory Gull seen this weekend around Pismo Beach. It's feeding on a seal carcass - it traveled thousands of miles southwest searching for dead seal...

It's a large bird - compare it to the western gull! Olsen describes it as "the Polar Bear" of gulls. I'm beginning to understand what he meant by that.
