Ivory Dolorosa. Encarna by Rafael del Casal. Eyes made by Beto in the old style.

I got her on sale a couple of weeks back and i was always intrigued by this sculpt- androgynous and strong, which upon arrival , it confirmed all my expectations. the sculpt is surprisingly detailed and easy to work with though quite ginormous lols. She is wearing a leatherette empire gown, with shoulder sculpture details and a filigree headpiece all inspired by Cherlize on Snow White and the Huntsman.

The old stone of the Church of the Betlemitas in Cajamarca, Peru, has the look of fine, old ivory.

As is usually the case, when cropping an image of this type of architecture, which is broken into so many different elements that are nevertheless interrelated, it is hard to know where to cut.

This box was inspired by some Gothic ivory carvings I saw at The Cloisters in NYC this August. The box ended up a lot more Baroque, but even though I'm a Bauhaus kinda guy, this one is my personal favorite of the series.

Abidjan at night, the most populous French-speaking city in Africa, and one of the most in the world, with almost over 4 million inhabitants it shines distinctively at night, especially as it stands out against the darkness of the coastal waters and the huge Banco national parc. Happy national day Ivory Coast!

After playing with Ronan, I couldn't /not/ bring out his WS/mermaid version. I ended up changing his clothing, too and borrowing Portia's teddy bear. He looks so comfy and snuggly.

...I am somewhat sad that I cannot get him his own bear like this one. He's just going to have to steal Portia's from time to time. XD

Ivory Gull is the most northerly bird on the planet. It breeds in the far north in areas adjacent to ice fields and has been recorded closer to the North Pole than any other bird species. It doesn't venture far in winter, usually wintering on the sea-ice edge in the winter twilight zone. It has a few adaptations for living in extreme cold conditions. First it has very short legs (tarsometatarsi) as they are the parts it loses most heat through. The second adaptation is rarely visible but it is in this photo. It has reduced webbing between its toes compared with other gulls, which reduces the area through which it can lose body heat. It still needs webbed feet to swim, but it avoids swimming when the water is sub zero. And this is what normal webbing looks like on the feet of a (Glaucous) Gull for comparison: www.flickr.com/photos/timmelling/53075167254/in/photolist

Ivory gull juvenile ( Pagophila eburnea ) 3-12-2017 Flint River in the middle of the University of Michigan - Flint Campus Flint , Michigan

Although this photo was taken into the sun, I like it because when the gull landed on this ledge, someone behind me said, "That is one sexy gull." And everyone agreed.

The foot comes from a small acrolith statue with flesh parts of ivory and with drapery in another material, perhaps metal or semiprecious stone. The tongue of the sandal is decorated with a personification of the Nile, suggesting that the statue depicted was either an Egyptian deity or the Emperor Augustus, who annexed Egypt after the defeat of Antony and Cleopatra at the Battle of Actium in 31 BCE.
