I love travelling around Africa and seeing a simple way of life. This was taken in the north of Ivory Coast. Each settlement there has a mosque.

A Great Big Thank You to You All!!! This definitely is a better day than the day before I posted this photo. Frontpage of Explore: Highest position #18
If anyone had as crap a Monday as I had please raise your hand. I’m so glad that day is over. It’s nothing like getting crap the minute you walk into your place of work. And the best thing is when it wasn’t something you’ve done or caused. The day only got more fun as the hours peeled away. There must be something in the rules of life that state if you have a great weekend, your Monday is sure to be jacked up.
Anyhow this is why I decided to post this photo, because it reminded me of an Ivory Tower. It was definitely a place I surely wanted to be yesterday. Way at the tippy top LOL!
The photo was shot in Center City Philadelphia actually not far from the place I took the last one in this series. The building you’re looking at is CityHall. The building was constructed from 1871 until 1901 and is the world's tallest masonry building. It’s definitely worth a look if you’re in Philadelphia.
I’m on my way to work now, let’s hope it starts better than the last. Hope you all are doing well!

Ivory Gull was first described by Constantine Phipps (2nd Baron Mulgrave) in 1773 from a specimen collected on his expedition towards the North Pole. He was also the first modern European to describe Polar Bear on the same trip, and incidentally Horatio Nelson was a 15 year old midshipman on this same expedition. Phipps described Ivory Gull as Larus eburneus (which literally means Ivory Gull) but in 1829 Johann Kaup decided it was distinct from other gulls and created a new genus for it; Pagophila, from the Greek pagos for sea-ice, and philos to love. And this photograph shows one flying around the sea ice north of Svalbard.
Now the rules of nomenclature say that two unrelated animals cannot share the same genus, but in 1844 John Edward Gray came about as close as you can get to breaking this rule when he decided that the Harp Seal was sufficiently different from other seals and created the genus Pagophilus, which is the male form of the female Pagophila, which had already been assigned to Ivory Gull. Here's a Harp Seal also "loving sea ice": www.flickr.com/photos/timmelling/53081952033/in/dateposted/ Both Ivory Gull and Harp Seal are the only species within their genus.
Incidentally the rules of nomenclature do allow animals and plants to share a generic name and there are two obvious examples in Britain. The genus Oenanthe is used for Wheatears and Water Dropworts, and the genus Prunella is used for Dunnock and Self-heal.

'Pagophila eburnea'
West Point Dam, Troup Co., GA (Thanks to Walt Chambers for the find and post!!!)
I drove 600+ miles with the State Ornithologist to view this rarity (Peterson's say's "very rare, threatened), and was obviously not disappointed. First State record for GA (one in TN in 1996), and the furthest South ever on record. If you had told me a week ago I would have to drive SOUTH to see this bird, I would have thought you were crazy.

After the war to claim power killed half the planet's population, the other half were kept distracted and controlled by the deathsports. Those from the opposition were forced to ride, fight and die in the Overkill Trials. The promise of freedom and power made men become horrible shadows of their former selves. Many wanted the world to burn, the pain to just...end.

This was another Bridal Set...this one is my long favored "island design" sometimes called "romance design" and often requested with specific colors. *nod*
There are many shades of white in the world, one finds. ♥
♥ So, this lovely bride will have two hair sticks. ♥ I wonder if I'll be privy to a picture of the done-up hair...

The wakizashi in Japan is the shorter companion to the katana saber. This one is a ceremony model with richly sculpted ivory sheath and handle, and solid gold banding around the root of the blade. It was made in the mid–1800s and brought back from Japan by a US soldier just after World War II.
It is a museum-grade piece. I also have the katana, but being over 1.6 meters long, it is quite difficult to photograph. I may do it one day, though.

I just love the look of this pretty Ivory dress with flower embroidered bodice and tulle skirt.
Also love the floaty femme feeling I get wearing it.
Worn with Wolford tights, matching clutch bag and high heels in sparkly ivory x
I've had this nightdress a few years now, and its still a favourite of mine as it has some pretty lace on the bodice and looks very flattering on.
No special setup again: just a red plastic background, spoon fixed and milk with green color dropped into the spoon.
For the strobists: Sony F42 bare camera left, triggered by camera commander flash.

Does ths species still exist? As I visited several swamps in southern states recently, this fantasy crossed my mind. But, is its extinction fantasy?
The last unconfirmed sighting of an ivory-billed woodpecker is imprecise but likely within the early 2020s (circa 2022–2023). The possibility of its existence persists, but is slim. The 2023 Ecology and Evolution study, backed by the FWS’s decision to delay extinction status, provides the strongest recent evidence, suggesting a tiny population could survive in remote southeastern swamps.
However, the lack of clear photos, habitat loss, and frequent misidentifications make extinction more probable. If alive, the ivory-bill’s numbers are critically low, underscoring the need for continued searches and habitat protection. I know it's a long shot, but it's fun to dream!
