Some of the old elephant bulls in Zimbabwe's Mana Pools National Park are very relaxed. This guy approached us and didn't show any interest in our presence which allowed me to take this close up of his tusks.

I picked these up at the farmer's market I visited on Sunday. My bunch of pink ranunculus are almost finished, but now I have these gorgeous ivory replacements to fill the gap!

Last night I was testing my iPhone6 camera again and took some pics of Ivory in the dark and I'm quite pleased with the quality of the images.

These are concentric carved ivory spheres. It is the final exam of apprentices who make ivory carvings. This starts as a single solid mass of ivory. The diameter is approximately 2.5 inches in diameter. It is about 35 years old.

A friend was very gracious and allowed me to wander around his piano service workshop with my camera(s) while he and his technician worked away.

My knowledge of pianos is limited to say the least. But when it comes to photography, I think I have an eye for patterns, textures and details. It was fun to let myself loose with my 70mm macro lens in close up and shallow depth of field mode.

Next visit I may focus more on the people aspect of the shop.

A VERY SAD ENDING for this visitor from the far north.

Last Thursday this Ivory Gull was spotted along the Flint river on the U of M flint campus in Michigan. As word got out, people drove for hours to get a chance to see this Ivory Gull as it is very rarely ever seen south of the Bering Sea. As far away from Texas from what I've heard. Channel 12 in flint even did a quick story on this finding.

We took a little detour while we were out and about yesterday to Flint to see this bird. Only the second one known to ever been seen in Michigan before.

SADLY, it was found deceased this morning. It was taken to the U of M Museum of Zoology in Ann Arbor for a necropsy in hopes of finding out why this bird died and to study it. Glad we got a chance to see it before it passed

Buckinghamia celsissima, commonly known as the ivory curl, is a species of trees, constituting part of the plant family Proteaceae. They grow naturally only in the wet tropics rainforests areas of north eastern Queensland, Australia. Wikipedia

(This was captured in South East Queensland).

Almost everywhere one looks, there is an Ivory Curl tree in bloom at the moment.

I had the great pleasure of photographing Jayme Arts yesterday with a couple photography pals.

Its incredible what a beautiful model does for a simple portrait. I feel as though we get so caught up in the post production of our work that we neglect the fact that good content is essential in creating a beautiful image. Needless to say, it also save us hours in photoshop.

I hope you enjoy the image! (I barely did ANYTHING to it in post, couldn't be happier)

Processing: cropped along the bottom; colour & light adjusted substantially in Aperture 3. Exposure was increased to produce the colour tones in the sky.

I'll finish posting my shots from Colorado for now. I haven't finished a roll in forever! But I still have plenty saved up that I've wanted to post.

Spinning their astonishing and beautiful webs of silk that shimmer like gold, here is one of our golden orb weaver spiders, Trichonephila edulis.

Their webs are up to a metre in diameter.

These spiders exhibit sexual dimorphism, this being a much larger female with body length of 30 mm.
