.....and a little scruffy!
Green Lacewing (Chrysopidae), found in the house this weekend, probably looking for somewhere to overwinter. Captured here licking his fingers having consumed the mince pie I offered him ....naturally. ;)
Macro Mondays - It's Alive. HMM!
Since nothing livens up a holiday get together like a little strategically placed mistletoe, I thought this would be an interesting choice for this week's Macro Monday "It's Alive" theme. What do you think?
for the Macro Mondays challenge "It's Alive" (December 12th 2016)
This orchid is into its 3rd year with me. Last year it rose from its slumber and surprised me with a single stem and few nice flowers. But this year it has gone over the top! I counted 18 flowers this morning - and the stems are so heavy I have had to improvise two support struts.
I always have big problems shooting orchids, as the flowers are a complicated shape, and finding the best focus is so difficult. So I chose to concentrate on a small flower at the end of the spray ....
The full orchid shot is in the first comment field
Happy Macro Monday to everyone!

Macro Monday Theme: It's Alive!
Love the natural icicles on this pine branch! Made me think of the Christmas story about the pine tree that no one wanted! This one is out in the "wild" and will be there (I hope) for many Christmas's to come!

Found this tiny maple tree seed (10mm in length) sitting on some moss in the garden.
Macro Mondays - "It's Alive"
I had to dig into my "archives" this time because I just don't have enough time for photography at the moment. We visited this birdpark / zoo near Eindhoven earlier this year. I took my 90 mm macro lense and photographed through the mesh. The photo is a bit cropped also.
I wasn't sure about this photograph at first..I really enjoyed the band's performance and I wanted to promote them but the angle of this seemed a little awkward... Still, I learned to escape inside her active energy in this moment and decided I could separate myself from the slightly awkward angle and appreciate merely the human female form. Check their music out...they are a great band!

Though small lichen colonies often look like paintball splats, they are very much alive. They grow very slowly but are tenacious and hearty survivors. Technically a lichen is a composite organism that arises from algae and/or cyanobacteria living among filaments of a fungus in a symbiotic relationship. Over at the Frankenstein Place
In the velvet darkness
Of the blackest night
Burning bright
There's a guiding star
No matter what or who you are
There's a light
Over at the Frankenstein place
There's a light
Burning in the fireplace
There's a light, a light
In the darkness of everybody's life
The darkness must go down the river
Of night's dreaming
Flow morphia slow, let the sun
And light come streaming
Into my life,
Into my life
There's a light
Over at the Frankenstein place
There's a light
Burning in the fireplace
There's a light, a light
In the darkness of everybody's life

For Macro Mondays theme "It's Alive." I was taking pictures of our newly-decorated Christmas tree anyway, and only belatedly realized that it would also fit the MM theme for this week! So I took a macro I like, and here we are.
The bokeh is a blue and gold ornament with light reflecting off it.
For Macro Monday- It's alive HMM!
Thank you for looking, favouriting and commenting. It is greatly appreciated.
Long-forgotten fromage from the fridge that became a common domestic biology experiment.
While working with this stinky subject, which was long ago an appetizingly fragrant piece of Cheddar cheese spiked with caramelized onions, I soon noticed hints of naturally-occurring pareidolia amidst the mold.

A Cat's nose is alive with hundreds-of-millions of nerves, is 14-times more sensitive than a human's and is a feline's most important sense.
This archived photograph was taken with a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro lens mounted to a Canon 40D. Shot at MFD for a lifesize reproduction of 1:1.
Chloe's (R.I.P. sweetie) nose was about 10mm, side-to-side.
Thanks all.
For Macro Mondays - It's Alive.
The second time I have seen one of these flies, the eyes suggest to me that it is some sort of Horsefly but if anyone can help with the ID I would appreciate it.
Happy Macro Monday!!

loosely quoted after Neil Armstrong (the first man on the moon):
"That's one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind.
- Aphids, also known as plant lice are small sap-sucking insects.
Aphids are among the most destructive insect pests on cultivated plants in temperate regions. The damage they do to plants has made them enemies of farmers and gardeners around the world.
