You never know what you’re going to find when you start crawling along the forest floor. I believe this is an ensatina, a local lungless salamander. It essentially breathes through its skin so I didn’t risk picking it up and interfering with that process. I’ve only started seeing them in the last few years but they’ve probably been around. They don’t get very big but this one was on the small side of those I’ve seen. The body without tail was just about an inch and a half long. Nothing small about the eyes though.
"Look! It's moving. It's alive. It's alive... It's alive, it's moving, it's alive, it's alive, it's alive, it's alive, IT'S ALIVE!" (Frankenstein, 1931)
Happy Macro Monday! (HMM!)
It's Alive!
(p.s. relax, only a garden slug!)
A lawn reimagined. It's a growing trend.
You know I just get so excited when Pantone announces its Color of the Year so I wanted to do something to celebrate. For 2017, it's Greenery. One thing I like about it is how well it plays with other colors. It's refreshing and it naturally becomes one with other greens. Let's go where the grass is greener...

The first mango I'm trying to grow in a very long time. I started right before the theme for the week was announced, so it seemed fitting to use the seedlings in this week's shot.
At first glance this looked your everyday banana slug eating a mushroom. It was an unusual looking mushroom but in the low light of the forest floor it just looked like it had more texture than the ones I had been seeing. Once I got down to ground level I realized the “texture” was moving. I have no idea what they were, but the slug was gobbling them down at the speed of … a slug. Which just means freezing the action, even in low light, was not much of a problem.
This is a Picture taken by my cat cora, its not easy to take a Picture from here!! But it is a Signe that she is Alive!!! ;)

American red squirrel (Tamiasciurus hudsonicus) / Gemeines Rothörnchen
The American red squirrel (Tamiasciurus hudsonicus) is one of three species of tree squirrel currently classified in the genus Tamiasciurus, known as the pine squirrels (the others are the Douglas squirrel, T. douglasii and Mearns's squirrel, T. mearnsi). American red squirrels are also referred to as pine squirrels, North American red squirrels, boomers and chickarees. They are medium-sized (200–250 g) diurnal mammals that defend a year-round exclusive territory. The diet of these tree squirrels is specialized on the seeds of conifer cones. As such, they are widely distributed across North America wherever conifers are common, except on the Pacific coast, where they are replaced by Douglas squirrels. Recently, American red squirrels have been expanding their range to include primarily hardwood areas...

Urn Plant (Aechmea Fasciata) flower.
Stunning flowers that go on and on and on.
37 images focus stacked with PS. Used manual Samyang 85mm f/1.4. More of a portrait lens, but I wondered if it would be good for macro and I find I am getting excellent results with tubes/bellows.
He may not look it here, but! Honest, Its Alive! This is Oscar, our 16 year old Russian Blue look alike. He’s been through the mill over the last few months with an operation to untangle his stomach muscles and he’s suffering from arthritis in his back legs, so it’s good to see him peacefully sleeping, very much a house cat now he’s getting older. Happy Macro Mondays.
