Macro mondays theme: It's alive
Last week I was in a butterfly house with my daughter. After the new theme was announced, I asked her to join me one more time yesterday. But this time we went a few minutes after Sunset armed with an LED torch. At the evening the butterflies sleep and you can even touch them. This one looked very special in the artificial light and seemed to glow.

Got this plant 5 years ago from a friend who passed away. It's been growing in my garden since then, keeping her memory alive.
Velvet Shank mushroom (Flammulina velutipes) for macro mondays theme "it's alive". Seen here growing on rotting logs by the lake in my local park, Trentham Gardens.
Far smaller than a 3" credit card, these very young forms of Velvet Shank will grow up to be quite an impressive sight, looking glossy and slimy in moist conditions but then appearing as dried up as an old prune in dry conditions...fascinating things! See my next image along for the 'adult' version to see just how wonderfully glossy and slimy they can be!
Caps from these fungi are edible and are grown commercially in Japan, where they are variously known as Enoki, Enokitake or Enoko-take.

Roots from re-growing a scallion, the easiest food scrap to regrow. Just take the leftover green onion roots, drop them in a glass with enough water to cover them. HMM

Yes, I confess that my first thought for this theme was to take a picture from summer, but that's not the challenge I think. So my choice felt on this living garlic.
Taken from a moving planet :). I wanted a photograph in which the flowers seem to be taller than the Moon.
In this picture the sea lion has closed his eyes. This is not very common, since they normally swim with their eyes open.

There was too much choice for this topic, had to get hubby to choose which photo to upload. I had been focusing on the snail, but there's a tiny bug too on the leaf. So bug, snail and leaf were alive in the December sunshine

I grew these from seeds that I cultivated from pollinating a white flower with a dark pink flower. I ended up with a multitude of colors (ie...red, all shades of pink, coral, white, and variegated).
