It's a bit tiring to walk up to the ruined fortress of Thessaloniki but then you can enjoy the great views of the city.
This is a Picture taken by my cat cora, its not easy to take a Picture from here!! But it is a Signe that she is Alive!!! ;)
With its work at Otto finished and the northbound Saluki into Kankakee, CN A408 departs for Champaign passing the small depot in Chebanse, Illinois.
Wanted to catch the full moon the night before but low cloud moved in early to block the view and once it started raining went home :-) Tried again the next evening and the Moon popped up.
This Sturgeon Moon comes from the giant lake sturgeon of the Great Lakes and Lake Champlain; this native freshwater fish was readily caught during this part of summer and an important food staple for Native Americans who lived in the region. At one time the lake sturgeon was quite abundant in late summer, though they are rarer today.
April can be many things up here and even though most places are well into spring we often are not. Lake States train 11 has arrived at Trout Lake with 43 cars on April 3, 1987 and one member of the crew struggles to get a switch on the right so 715 and 2405 can start to work there set out while the Trout Lake MOW crew is on the left heading over to clean switches on that side of the yard. Shooting on snow with such a bright spring sun was truly a bit of a challenge and I should have went up an f-stop from normal but Lightroom fixed my error with a minimum of fuss. It's Thirty Thursday!
Its fruits are small fleshy berries containing between 1 and 4 seeds. As they develop they turn from green to black, and then become orange when ripe. The berries are eaten by birds (e.g. Onychognatus species) and thereby dispersed. The seeds are 4–5 mm in diameter and weigh on average 68 mg.
Its performance brought the house down and the audience gave it thunderous applause and a standing ovation! 😁
How many times have you seen this scene in a photograph, probably never. Would I have taken a photo from here with out the light bursting through the skies, maybe, but I wouldn’t have posted it. Sometimes, just sometimes it’s all about the light. Have a lovely weekend.
A mushroom, or toadstool, is the fleshy, spore-bearing fruiting body of a fungus, typically produced above ground, on soil, or on its food source. The standard for the name mushroom is the cultivated white button mushroom, Agaricus bisporus; hence the word mushroom is most often applied to those fungi (Basidiomycota, Agaricomycetes) that have a stem (stipe), a cap (pileus), and gills (lamellae, sing. lamella) on the underside of the cap. Mushroom also describes a variety of other gilled fungi, with or without stems, therefore the term is used to describe the fleshy fruiting bodies of some Ascomycota. These gills produce microscopic spores that help the fungus spread across the ground or its occupant surface. Forms deviating from the standard morphology usually have more specific names, such as bolete, puffball, stinkhorn, and morel, and gilled mushrooms themselves are often called agarics in reference to their similarity to Agaricus or their order Agaricales. By extension, the term mushroom can also refer to either the entire fungus when in culture, the thallus (called a mycelium) of species forming the fruiting bodies called mushrooms, or the species itself. 20063

Named for its least obvious field mark, a faint blush of red on the belly that is rarely seen, the red-bellied woodpecker is the largest common woodpecker of the eastern United States. It can be found in almost any wooded area, including suburban neighborhoods and parks. It is immediately recognized by the black-and-white zebra barring on the back and the red cowl, which is limited to the back of the head in females. Tolerant of humans, it is a regular visitor to feeders, favoring sunflower seed, suet, and fruit. Highly vocal, the most common call is a loud, rolling churr, less sharp than that of the similar red-headed woodpecker. They also make softer kek notes in short series, similar to the call of a flicker. Red-bellied woodpeckers have slowly extended their range north in the past fifty years and are now found to extreme southern Canada.
With its wings fully extended it is easier to see how a Brown Pelican can maintain a glide ratio that appears to exceed 100 to 1 when it sails across the bayou only inches above the surface.
We are clearly in pelican season lately but this is one of a very few adult birds encountered so far on Armand Bayou.
January 25 marks the 270th anniversary of Moscow State Lomonosov University.
Moscow State University was founded in 1755 and rightfully considered to be the oldest Russian university. Its establishment in Moscow was made possible thanks to the tireless efforts of Mikhail Vasilyevich Lomonosov, a prominent scientist and Russian academician (1711–1765), after whom it was named.

Its always nice to find a unique photo position at big heritage events. After about an hour of waging war on the fast growing vegetation, I was able to just barely photograph 23 058 climbing the famed Geislinger Steige. Even with the camera held over my head a few annoying green leads remain but that was more than enough gardening for the day. A big thanks to the Ulmer Eisenbahnfreunden for the great event!

With its highest peak at 1424 metres in altitude, the Grand-Ballon is the highest summit in the Vosges mountains. On top of the Grand-Ballon summit stands the Diables Bleus monument erected by the Club Alpin Français and the Club Vosgien in tribute to the victims of the batallions of mountain infantry who fought in the First World War. Radar for civil aviation was designed as an architectural work by its creator Claude Vasconi and built in 1997.
