The department has been building up a library of design related reference books over the last few years. Pupils are encouraged to make use of these books on a regular basis. The photographs here demonstrate the tremendous wealth of content contained therein.

The sequence has been shot in such a way that the cover of the book is shown first and a few sample pages are included to give the student an idea of the content the book contains. Pupils may then approach staff and request a short term loan.

This second iteration of The C.U.R.B. is a roving picnic through East Williamsburg in which guests will participate in various acts of environmental remediation and stewardship, followed by a meal of experimental tamales and wild brews foraged (almost entirely) from the city streets. Learn how Mugwort, Mulberries, Amaranth, Pigeons, and more came to be our neighbors, and what they can teach us about surviving and thriving in the midst of our own hot mess. Through citizen science and storytelling, Banquet host Candace Thompson seeks to render visible our fragile food web in the era of manmade climate change, explore our historically complicated relationship(s) to land, and imagine alternative forms of economy and ecology that are regenerative and resilient rather than exploitative and extractive. NOTE: this event will be video documented, and some of the food items are slightly contaminated due to human activity. As such, the meal is not suitable for young children, and individuals who are, or are planning to become, pregnant should use some caution.

The second iteration of the BMW M4 (codenamed G82) is largely based on the standard 4 Series (G22 generation), which was previewed by the BMW Concept 4. It is a high performance version of the standard G22 4 Series

The more notable upgrades for the G82 M4 is a 35 kW increase over the previous M4, as well as adopting the twin-kidney grille from the 4 Series.

M4 Competition

At launch in 2020, the M4 Competition model was unveiled alongside the standard M4 model. Compared to the standard M4, the M4 Competition increases power output by 22 kW to a total of 375 kW and torque is increased by 100 N⋅m to 650 N⋅m, and it is offered exclusively with an 8-speed M Steptronic Sport automatic transmission. The M4 Competition also features a separate transmission oil cooler, black chrome exhaust tips, forged M light-alloy wheels, automatic brake hold function, and high-gloss black mirrors.

xDrive

Competition models equipped with xDrive are significantly quicker from 0-60 mph when compared to RWD models, clocking in at just 2.8 seconds, as compared to 3.6 seconds for RWD.

This concept began with the seagull, an image snapped while on a boat off of Captiva Island on the Florida gulf coast. The pose of the bird and the dark sky suggested something poetic to me. To make this image, the bird photo was combined with two computed fractals (both are icp fractals, icp = iteration in the complex plane, a mandlebrot set). One looks like clouds and sun rays. The other looks like birds flocking in flight. The fractals by themselves are not very interesting, but the mashup is much richer than its parts. To add a lyrical text element, poems were selected from Emily Dickinson, America’s famous first lady of poetry (1830-1886). Her poetry is heavily imbued with natural themes. Birds are very common in the 1,775 poems that she penned. The five used for the overlay are presented below (her poems are numbered, so they can easily be found, such as in her collected poems at Project Gutenberg www.gutenberg.org/files/12242/12242-h/12242-h.htm ).

The series images are (1a) the original composition of photo, fractals, and poems, (1b) a panel showing the source elements, photo and fractal, (1c) the full original photo, (1d) the composite artwork without the text. Two companion images are added. “Fractal sky seagull” uses the same bird and sky sources, then blends them to a beach and water photo also from Captiva. “Spectre of flight” uses the bird and sky sources then combines them with a stock image of a feather. The Emily Dickinson poems are the following:

§ § §

1585

The Bird her punctual music brings

And lays it in its place --

Its place is in the Human Heart

And in the Heavenly Grace --

What respite from her thrilling toil

Did Beauty ever take --

But Work might be electric Rest

To those that Magic make –

774

It is a lonesome Glee --

Yet sanctifies the Mind --

With fair association --

Afar upon the Wind

A Bird to overhear

Delight without a Cause --

Arrestless as invisible --

A matter of the Skies.

1389

Touch lightly Nature's sweet Guitar

Unless thou know'st the Tune

Or every Bird will point at thee

Because a Bard too soon –

1634

Talk not to me of Summer Trees

The foliage of the mind

A Tabernacle is for Birds

Of no corporeal kind

And winds do go that way at noon

To their Ethereal Homes

Whose Bugles call the least of us

To undepicted Realms

254

"Hope" is the thing with feathers --

That perches in the soul --

And sings the tune without the words --

And never stops -- at all --

And sweetest -- in the Gale -- is heard --

And sore must be the storm --

That could abash the little Bird

That kept so many warm --

I've heard it in the chillest land --

And on the strangest Sea --

Yet, never, in Extremity,

It asked a crumb -- of Me.

Photo, Words, & Poetry Series

In this series of images, photographs and art are combined with text and poetry. In some, the focus is the imagery, in others it is the poetry and text, and in others it is the lettering and fonts. In all, these elements combine to create the art and expression.

ZURB Wired 2015: Meet Downtown Streets Team, Downtown Streets Team is celebrating 10 years of helping the homeless transform their lives through their unique work and community beautification programs, in addition to providing assistance with housing, medical care and education. We’re going to help them by creating a brand new marketing campaign that includes a new responsive website, trifold brochure, postcard sized pamphlets for handing out on the streets, posters and some t-shirt designs.

The ZURB Wired 24-hour marathon is where our team and the team from one lucky local nonprofit get together to do something great in 24 hours. We spend the day helping the nonprofit solve a big challenge; whether it be marketing for an upcoming event, or completely overhauling their brand; and we get it all done in 24 hours.

Third and final iteration of this traditional front engine, rear-wheel-drive, full size luxury saloon. Power always came from a 4.6-litre V8 producing between 205 and 239 PS depending on the year and trim. Its place in the Lincoln lineup was never really replaced, though the current Continental captures the elegance and comfort once offered by the Town Car.

This Town Car is what I call a 'South Florida Special' with oversized wheels adding a touch of drama to what used to be an ordinary car in its day.
