Out for a shoot before I had breakfast in Kiama with some fellow photogs .. 'Clear Outside' indicate very favourable numbers for this morning, , even thou I didn't have a location in mind I'd determined to get up and have a go.

Here at Bass Point, Shellharbour was an emergency backup location as the two I'd picked prior the night before weren't too favourable (the tide was too low for one and the road was closed to the other).

I'd got a couple of nice'ish sunsets here North of the Shallows and thought it may just be the morning for it.

Freezing sunset on the lake with the westerly wind blowing straight into your face. First images with a 10stop ND filter on the Irix 15/2.4 - vignetting is a little heavy (to be expected I suppose) but generally I'm happy with it.

With more than 30 miles of beaches, a galapagos of islands, hidden coves and a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Northumberland coast is simply spectacular.

From stretches of hard, flat sand, perfect for sandcastles, tiny sheltered gems ideal for cosy picnics or vast breaker-blasted expanses for invigorating walks with the dog, Northumberland has the beach for you.

Taken with a Irix 15mm f/2.4 Blackstone Lens. If you do not already have an ultra-wide angle lens in your kit, definitely check out the Irix 15mm f/2.4 Blackstone or Firefly Lens.

Dropped into Welshpool for dinner and a sunset tonight..

Pretty amazing place ... the restored Jetty is such a gift to the area enabling great views well out into the river.

Trying out the Irix gel filters on the Irix 15mm. A bit fiddly to get them installed, but they work well.

I'm working with the Mississippi Valley Conservancy to try and record and showcase the dark skies around the Wildcat Mountain region in Wisconsin. They are trying to be recognized as a national dark sky region. If successful it would be only the second one in Wisconsin. They have worked pretty extensively in the area to identify areas with light pollution then tried to address it by changing lights out or finding ways to make it better. From the sounds of it they still want to do a few more things but as you can see it's already incredibly dark. I stacked 6 consecutive images to create this image.

The airglow (or night luminescence) is the emission of light by a planetary atmosphere caused by the restructuring of atoms in the form of molecules that had been ionized by sunlight during the day, or by cosmic rays and is normally green in colour. This occurs in layers of the atmosphere located between approximately 85 and 95 km high.

The most important element for airglow to be generated is the Nitrogen combined with either hydrogen or oxygen.

This is only visible in very long exposures in very high quality skies such as that of the Sierra Norte de Sevilla with little or no light pollution.

A few weeks ago Neal Grosskopf messaged me and druuuuuuug me out to shoot....ok, more like I have been telling him for like 6 months I wanted to go back out to Cana Island and shoot and he let me know it was clear so I made the journey up. ;) And for good reason as you can see. This is a 6 image stack (though I'm not entirely sure I would have needed to stack it)

I stacked this in Sequator, then edited in LR/PS to produce this. If anyone would like to download the image try stacking I put the files in a Dropbox folder that is available to download. Feel free to post your edit in the comments. :)

Some more images from last Mondays sunset...

Busy Busy day today ... 5 minutes to catch my breath watching the sunset at Oak Flats Ski Way park...

My attempt to shoot the Milky Way, not perfect, just a try with my Irix 15mm.

Struggled with this one for some reason .. finally got it 'right' enough to leave it alone.

High light cloud all afternoon yesterday, ducked down to Kiama for some take away and a chance at sunset.

Cloud teased the whole time but managed a bit of a show before the day was done.
