La poésie d’une ligne courbe, la douceur d’un regard tourné vers l’intérieur.

Un grand merci à la nature pour cette grâce offerte.

"You can close your eyes to the things you do not want to see, but you cannot close your heart to the things you do not want to feel.”

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To come face to face with an unpleasant situation is often painful and, as much as we'd like to believe it, closing one's eyes does not make it go away. If you're one of those people who subscribes to the "out of sight, out of mind" theory, then Yay! for you, you're still living in a dream world. Most of us stepped out of the dream world long ago and we know that no amount of squeezing our eyes shut can change the reality of a situation. It runs over and over in our minds like a broken record and it hurts every single time we think about it. The sad thing is that we wish to feel numb and often become unfeeling. I know of no one that is able to protect their heart that way, do you? I know I can't.

Sure, time will usually heal the wounds, but it's often a long process, a real journey inward. So we go, taking each step with great care because we know that the deeper in we move, the closer we come to the source of the pain. Sometimes, it's unbearable, and we stop to catch our breath. We close our eyes and wrap our arms around ourselves instinctively to shield ourselves from the misery. And when that pain diminishes, we shore up our courage and move even farther inward, knowing full well that the next step, or two, will likely bring us to our knees.

What's amazing about it is this: It's in the movement toward the pain that we find our courage, and it's in this courage that we find our strength. Then at last, it's in this strength that we find our answers. Funny thing is, by the time we find the answers, the pain has generally gone, although it has left scars behind in hopes that we will not be wounded in the same place again.

What a rough way to grow, huh?

Proverbs 20:30 “The blueness of a wound cleanseth away evil: so do stripes the inward parts of the belly.”

The ball has begun and we're closing our trap

Inwardly we're gathering ourselves

While the dance comes to higher pace

Still nobody can foresee

Joining the circle, in black robes unknown

Unsheathing our swords and get ready to dance

Our hearts are filled with the will to survive

In this last night of their life

It's a murderous, murderous ball night..

[Last night of the Kings - Van Canto]

It's been a while Flickr. Life is presenting some new opportunities to me lately, that are keeping me busy but excited. I travel or dream about trails every day though, always finding the direction I need inward by traveling outward.

This woman's name is Velika, meaning 'Great' in Serbian. She has had a very difficult life and lives in our parish church's premises, or better to say in a shed. She has been offered to move to old people's home, but she refuses. She's a strange woman, her words touch your soul and often hit where you are most fragile...Rarely does she accept anything we offer her. She has her ways, she's a peculiar kind... But she says she would never leave the church yard..

Update: Velika passed away on January 25th 2013, 80 years old.

One of the coolest events that you can see as a landscape photographer is the morning glow on the peak of a mountain. Not being a morning person, I used to completely ignore sunrises when I started in favor of the more comfortably timed sunsets. I reasoned that both are golden hours with warm side-lighting, so I was not missing out on anything by choosing to forego sunrises. That plan lasted until I saw the first light hitting a mountain peak. The first time it happened was in the White Mountains of NH. While it is true that both sunsets and sunrises have warm golden side lighting, it’s a whole different atmosphere during sunrise. Somehow it's quieter, purer and more intimate.

The challenging part for me was to capture the mood and feeling of a mountain sunrise. I struggled quite a bit with the post-processing as well. First, I tried the HDR route and it did not work at all, the images looked artificial ad forced. Then I happened upon an article about Ansel Adams and his processing techniques. It was interesting to learn that Ansel meticulously processed his images, and one of the key elements from the article was that Ansel stayed away from global edit and preferred treating highlights and shadows differently. Until then, I thought the fault was with my photography technique, but I realized the problem was with my editing process. I started watching tons of processing videos online and adjusted my processing workflow to include the usage of luminosity masks. Luminosity masks helped me in isolating my processing for highlights and shadows. And the images started to look better.

The last step of the change was to take the images that will work with the processing technique to get the result that I had in my mind. The approach changed from getting a perfectly balanced exposure to getting shots that collected the correct information that’s needed to create the final image. Now, this might seem too mechanical, but the tricky part is picturing the result while you are frantically trying to capture the stunning that lasts a few seconds.

In the next few days, I will be posting images taken a few days apart at various vantage points near Mount Hood. This shot was taken at the perfect moment when the beauty of the light was at its peak. I knew I had to get the details of the very soft light right to get the scene right, so I sacrificed a few shadow details for the final image to work. I could have bracketed the image and made the trees brighter but that would have looked unnatural and distracted from the main subject of the shot.

A look inward into the ruins at Old Sarum from the perimeter wall. Old Sarum is the site of the earliest settlement of Salisbury in England and is situated on a hill about 2 miles north of the present day Salisbury. This area is the former site of a royal palace built within the castle for King Henry I.

The site has a fascinating earlier history, too. Indications of prehistoric settlement have been discovered from as early as 3000 BCE and an Iron Age hillfort was erected around 400 BCE. Saxons took the fort in the 6th century and later used it as a stronghold against marauding Vikings. The Normans constructed a motte and bailey castle, a stone curtain wall, and a great cathedral.

Pronation is basically the inward rolling of your feet when you walk and run; it forms part of the natural movement which helps your lower legs deal with shock from impact. Some people tend to pronate either more which is called overpronation or less, which is called underpronation or supination...

In Nawalgarh, in the Shekhawati region of Rajasthan, India, we stayed at the Roop Niwas Kothi, a heritage hotel with an old world charm in the outskirt of town. It is on a large estate with stables for more than 75 Marwari horses.

The Marwari or Malani horse is a rare breed of horses from the Marwar (or Jodhpur) region of India, known for its inward-turning ear tips (as you can see on the black horse up front). The Marwari are descended from native Indian ponies crossed with Arabian horses, possibly with some Mongolian influence.

Just before sunset at feeding time, the horses that are in the paddock are brought back to the stables. As soon as the gate opens, they bolt back to the stables stirring up lots of dust along their path. It is a very exciting experience, charged with energy.

It may indeed be fantasy when I

Essay to draw from all created things

Deep, heartfelt, inward joy that closely clings;

And trace in leaves and flowers that round me lie

Lessons of love and earnest piety.

So let it be; and if the wide world rings

In mock of this belief, it brings

Nor fear, nor grief, nor vain perplexity.

So will I build my altar in the fields,

And the blue sky my fretted dome shall be,

And the sweet fragrance that the wild flower yields

Shall be the incense I will yield to Thee,

Thee only God! and thou shalt not despise

Even me, the priest of this poor sacrifice.

I got up early early to do this so that I could have time when I get home from work to spend solely with Anthony. We've been married 8 months today - we like to celebrate the 8's. We got married on 08-08-08 :) Sappy? yes. oh well!

update - Anthony just sent me a bunch of calla lillies at work for our 8 month, which was our wedding flower. even sappier? yes. oh well :)

I met this male mute swan (Cygnus olor) on the island I'm from this summer. It came with its mate and two young ones. He used some time cleaning his feathers, while his family searched for food. He was ringed and first registered nearby in November 2017.

Went down to the Marine Lab tonight. Good thing I went cause it was a full moon and the sight was awesome!

While shooting I noticed some fishermen who were setting a net. They put it down and in less than five minutes they were scooping up fish into their bag! Now I want to try it out!
