These days will pass. Sometimes I have to go inward to find the way out. One positive thing about that is that I don't have to leave the house to do it.

When the wind works against us in the dark,
And pelts with snow
The lowest chamber window on the east,
And whispers with a sort of stifled bark,
The beast,
'Come out! Come out!'-
It costs no inward struggle not to go,
Ah, no!
I count our strength,
Two and a child,
Those of us not asleep subdued to mark
How the cold creeps as the fire dies at length,-
How drifts are piled,
Dooryard and road ungraded,
Till even the comforting barn grows far away
And my heart owns a doubt
Whether 'tis in us to arise with day
And save ourselves unaided.

“For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.”

‘’Ship to Shore’’ A Jon Buck Sculpture.
This Sculpture is to be found at the entrance of Portishead Docks. The concept is one of the Sculpture looking like a bollard, with both a male and female head. The male head looks outward to sea, and the female inward, giving the ‘ ship to shore’ concept of seafaring communities.

The air is crisp and the colors are fading quickly...reflect inward to your gratitude and be thankful for where you are today.
during this pandemic, and all its complexities, we're like these tender, brave, vulnerable flowers. we're alone yet together. we're ready to blossom in creative, radical, and beautiful ways. still, we must be patient. we must wait gently, as we tend inward and outward with love.
Gratitude is the inward feeling of kindness received. Thankfulness is the natural impulse to express that feeling. Thanksgiving is the following of that impulse.

One of the early realizations of the life of stillness is that the opposite of the contemplative life is not the active life but the reactive life: highly habituated emotional styles and lifestyles that keep us constantly reacting to life like victimizing victims, ever more convinced that the videos that dominate and shape our awareness are in fact true. The life of stillness gradually heals this split and leads us into wide-open fields where buried treasure lies (Mt 13:45–46), fields where the soul can “bathe in its own space” and “make long swathes in meadow lengths of space.”35 The God we seek already shines through our eyes. May our seeking not blind us to what already lies “hidden in plain sight all around us.”

... whose mind is inwardly cool and free from attachment and hatred and who looks upon this world like a mere spectator.
One who has understood well how to abandon all ideas of acceptance and rejection and who has realized the conscioussness which is within the innermost heart; their life is illustrious.

There's a very special light, indeed, in the Autumn. It's a clear light, almost crystalline in its purity. The light itself seems to impart something of an otherworldly nature our surroundings. Like Spring, the blaze of Autumn colour seems to offer another explosion of hue, to bookend or bracket the summer at it's tail end.
This light and the feelings it brings about creates a kind of aura around that season that seems to facilitate reflection and a turning inward.
The title is a play on Aurora Borealis, the northern lights. Here the title implies a particularly northern "aura" and in the Fall, especially as a Canadian, one is very much in tune with this "northern aura". It's in our very DNA.

Downtown Minneapolis. Foshay Tower is reflected in a skyscraper across the street. The tower is modeled after the Washington Monument, the sides of the building slope slightly inward and each floor is slightly smaller than the one below. The antenna mast extends the total height of the structure to 607 feet (185m). The building is an example of Art Deco, completed in 1929. I manipulated the photo somewhat to bring out the encroaching shadows and the light on one side of the street while the other side has darkened as the sun set.
There comes a moment when the heart knows it must turn inward to continue the journey.
I’ll be stepping away for a while to focus on something I’ve been working on for most of this year — a passion that’s finally coming to fruition.
Before I go, I’d like to share the top three lessons this path has taught me so far:
~ Never dull your shine for the sake of another’s comfort.
~ Walk with those who honor your strength, not those who take pleasure in testing it.
~ Speak your truth once — then let silence guard it from the deaf.
Thank you, dear friends, for the inspiration, support, and companionship you’ve shared along the way.
You’ve made this place feel like home — a gallery of incredible vision and creativity.
Warmly,
Alessa
P.S. Behind me in this image is one of my younger brother’s paintings. His name is Lash Zvezdan, and his art collection is housed at the Glinka Gallery in SL. He paints beautifully in real life and renders his creations in-world with the same soul.
the photographer sees the realization of his inward vision, and in that moment he has one advantage over most arts - his medium is swift enough to record his momentary inspiration :-)

He who turns inward with untroubled mind to search where the consciousness of "I" arises, realizes the Self, and rests in Thee, Oh Arunachala! like a river when it meets the ocean.
verse 3 of "Five Stanzas to Sri Arunachala" of Sri Ramana Maharshi.
The sound of your voice reaches not just my ears but into my soul,
Every "Have you eaten yet?", "Home?" and "What are you doing?" melts my cold heart,
Your logic annoys and amazes me at the same time,
The calmness you emit is infuriating,
How is it possible for another energy to make me feel at ease?
And yet at times the anger you harbor within is easily felt,
However, you never ever try to allow me to absorb it,
I wonder if a day would come when you would break the chains and release yourself entirely,
Just as I have done multiple times over and over,
Raw and real,
More opening than inwardly,
You are a treasure that is not fully dug out yet.
The Crescent Nebula (also known as NGC 6888, Caldwell 27, Sharpless 105) is an emission nebula in the constellation Cygnus, about 5000 light-years away. It was discovered by Friedrich Wilhelm Herschel in 1792. It is formed by the fast stellar wind from the Wolf-Rayet star WR 136 (HD 192163) colliding with and energizing the slower moving wind ejected by the star when it became a red giant around 250,000 to 400,000 years ago. The result of the collision is a shell and two shock waves, one moving outward and one moving inward. The inward moving shock wave heats the stellar wind to X-ray-emitting temperatures.

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.
The waves beside them danced; but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
In such a jocund company:
I gazed---and gazed---but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:
For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.
by William Wordsworth

Have a PLEASANT day my friends!!!
“The voice of the sea is seductive; never ceasing, whispering, clamoring, murmuring, inviting the soul to wander for a spell in abysses of solitude ; to lose itself in mazes of inward contemplation.
The voice of the sea speaks to the soul. The touch of the sea is sensuous, enfolding the body in its soft, close embrace.”
― Kate Chopin
The local botanical garden planted 18,000 daffodil bulbs across a large lawn. It is quite a lovely sight in full bloom.

We landed at a rocky beach and took a meandering walk around the shoreline. As we turned inward, this glacier appeared in front of us. I am still awed at the height of the ice. I feel so small against it.
Vang stave church (Polish: Świątynia Wang; Norwegian: Vang stavkyrkje; German: Stabkirche Wang) is a stave church which was bought by the Prussian King and transferred from Vang in the Valdres region of Norway and re-erected in 1842 in Brückenberg near Krummhübel in Germany, now Karpacz in the Karkonosze mountains of Poland.
The church is a four-post single-nave stave church originally built around 1200 in the parish of Vang in the Valdres region of Norway.
Re-erection
The foundation stone was laid on August 2, 1842 in the presence of King Friedrich Wilhelm himself. It was a demanding task for carpenters who had never seen the church, nor any stave church, to rebuild it correctly. In spite of excellent drawings, most of the materials were discarded. Only the main construction, consisting of sills, posts and wall plates, were made use of, in addition to the carved doorframes. All of the external gallery was built with new materials, and every wall plank was replaced.
The long lost apse was reconstructed, albeit with a very strange baroque roof. The gallery and the flèche were reconstructed, but several new windows without historical precedent were put in. The doorways were turned inside out, with the carvings facing inward. The decorated ceiling above the choir was not restored, probably because it seemed too Catholic in a Protestant church. All the original roof trusses were renewed.
The work took two years and the total cost amounted to more than 75 000 marks. On the King's birthday, October 15, 1843, the flèche with the date 1200 was raised. On July 27, 1844 Prince Frederick of the Netherlands together with huge crowds witnessed the consecration of "Die Bergkirche unseres Erlösers zu Wang" (The mountain church of Our Savior of Vang). The former owner J. C. Dahl was not present, but he was happy to know that his project had been realised. He was spared the burden of preserving only certain decorated elements, and pleased that "a fair likeness" had been rebuilt.
Now serving a Polish community, Wang church has become a major tourist attraction and is probably the world's most visited stave church with about 200 000 visitors each year.

Best enjoyed with your favourite special person (...or your favourite special tree!)
Always alone, while strolling along these fractured shores.
Biding my time, ever soaring up high with shooting stars.
Cracking a smile, while singing quietly these unheard songs.
Drifting inward, and laughing nonstop to a strange inner space.
Continuing the "Nature on Ice" series. Getting back to some more experimental cosmic candy. I'm still trying to get some Winter ideas out of the bucket. Spring shall return shortly. Wishing my Flickr friends a wonderful weekend!
Thanks for the favs and kind compliments. They are much appreciated!

Sea cliffs expose the volcanic rocks at Ponta do Mistério which is located between the villages of Agualava and Quarto Ribeiras on the Island of Terceira in the Azores. Here, columnar basalt (basalt that exhibits columnar or prismatic jointing) is overlain by tuffaceous breccia. The colums are visible in this picture at the base of the cliff along the shoreline. Columnar jointing is produced by cooling of lava flows, ash-flow tuffs, and other bodies of magma or lava. It is particularly common in basaltic lava flows. Cooling causes contraction which in turn causes fracturing. Fractures propagate from the top and bottom of flows inward towards the center These rocks are part of the volcanic complex associated with the Pico Alto volcano. In the Azores, the word, mistério means a lava flow. The direct translation of the word mistério in Portuguese means mystery. During the settlement of the islands in the 1400 and 1500’s, the Portuguese from the mainland were unfamiliar with volcanic activity. The fiery flows of molten rock that occasionally destroyed homes and lives were indeed a mystery to them.
Winter makes me look inward at the closer details around me. Looking forward to spring and greener pastures.
