Mimosa pudica (from Latin: pudica "shy, bashful or shrinking"; also called sensitive plant, sleepy plant or shy plant) is a creeping annual or perennial herb of the pea familyFabaceae often grown for its curiosity value: the compound leaves fold inward and droop when touched or shaken, defending themselves from harm, and re-open a few minutes later. The species is native to South America and Central America, but is now apantropical weed. It can also be found in Asia in countries such as Thailand. It grows mostly in shady areas, under trees or shrubs.
This is one of my favorite photos I've taken in a while. I could see getting this printed big. It would look awesome blown up.
By the way I took this using a vintage Nikkor-H Auto 50mm f/2 non-AI lens with a vintage vivitar 20mm extension tube. I get more interesting close up photos using this cheap setup versus my really expensive 105mm macro lens. I'm thinking about selling it because I really like wider angle macro lenses I think.
Do you think this would make a cool print?
You don't really realize how deep this brook has carved is way down until you get to the base of it and see the jagged walls angling inward, creating a claustrophobic bowl of mass covered stone.

Reflecting inward always is balanced with reflecting outward. The tininess of our lives compared to the vastness of the universe, doesn't negate the magnitude of our existence to me. It highlights the precious nature of life and the need to value our time even more.

Guruka Knife
The kukri or khukuri is a Nepalese knife with an inwardly curved blade, similar to a machete, used as both a tool and as a weapon in Nepal. Traditionally it was, and in many cases still is, the basic utility knife of the Nepalese people. It is a characteristic weapon of the Nepalese Army, the Royal Gurkha Rifles of the British Army, the Assam Rifles, the Gorkha regiments of the Indian Army, and of all Gurkha regiments throughout the world, so much so that some English-speakers refer to the weapon as a "Gurkha blade" or "Gurkha knife".

he walks with the weight of years in his posture, swallowed by a city that looks away. light finds him, but it offers no warmth â only the outline of existence. in this frame, time folds inward and forgets to move.
Let it Hurt.
Two figures curled inward, holding roses behind their heads—grief made visible.
Today, I sit with the ache of losing my dog, my companion of seventeen years. He was a piece of my soul, woven into every ritual of comfort and joy.
This image holds the posture of mourning: knees drawn, arms wrapped, shadows cast. The rose behind the head is for him—a symbol of love that bloomed quietly, daily, faithfully.
Let it hurt. Let it echo. Let it be beautiful in its depth.

Where are you now? Where is the goal? What
is the distance to be covered? The Self is not somewhere far
away to be reached. You are always that. You have only to
give up your habit, a long-standing one, of identifying yourself
with the non-self. All effort is only for that. By turning the
mind outwards, you have been seeing the world, the non-Self.
If you turn it inwards you will see the Self.
Sri Ramana
in the hush of a rainy afternoon, two umbrellas form a quiet cathedral. beneath one, a man gazes sideways—his white hair tracing the years, his silence louder than the crowd beyond. in this brief frame, time bends inward, and all that matters is the shelter we find in each other, spoken or not.
As the mind tends to go out turn it inwards then and there. It goes out owing to the habit of looking for happiness outside oneself; but the knowledge that the external objects are not the cause of happiness will keep it in check. This is vairagya or dispassion. Only after perfect vairagya the mind becomes steady.

She let the street fade behind her,
shoulders relaxed,
hair brushing lightly in the breeze.
In her gaze was the softness
of someone listening inward
while the rest of the world
kept moving around her.

Adrienne knew the bedroom was a dead end, but it was her only hope.
She dashed down the hall, her pulse pounding, and slammed the door behind her, a futile attempt to delay the inevitable.
A heartbeat later, the door exploded inward, ripped from its hinges. One of the men walked in, fists clenched. His eyes locking on Adrienne’s eyes and emitting a low growling sound.
Adrienne was ready. Her fingers closed around the .45 automatic from her nightstand. Without hesitation, she fired four rounds into his chest.
He crumpled—but instead of lying still, his body convulsed, twisting and writhing in grotesque fashion. Flesh melted away, revealing a scaly, reptilian form beneath.
The second man lunged. Adrienne twisted away, leveling the gun and squeezing the trigger three more times. He collapsed, just like the first.
Breathless, she staggered back into the corner. The pistol was empty. Her hands trembled. She was frozen, paralyzed with terror.
She had only half believed Kayla but it was true! These men, they aren't human!
Then the bald man entered, stepping over the bodies with deliberate calm. His piercing gaze pinned her in place. “Brave,” he said with a smirk. “But it’s over.”
He seized her wrist, yanking her close, and effortlessly plucked the useless weapon from her grasp then smacked her across the face.
“We have plans for you.”
He turned to the fourth man. “Tie her up tight. Search her for the device and take her to the truck.”

"The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance." - Aristotle
Catching the kingfisher diving in its natural environment is a real challenge. Capturing that moment just before it hits the water is a real thrill.
For oft, when on my couch I lie In vacant or in pensive mood, They flash upon that inward eye Which is the bliss of solitude; And then my heart with pleasure fills, And dances with the daffodils.
“Once there was a rich merchant who had a noble house of his own, and many goodly ships upon the seas. He had three daughters, all handsome: but the best in outward and inward charms was the youngest, who, from childhood, went by the name of Beauty. She was the pet of everybody but her two vain, giddy sisters who were jealous of their younger sibling for her natural charm, good temperament and beauty.”
Beauty and the Beast, written by Madame Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve.
The theme for "Looking Close on Friday" for the 4th of October is "odd one out". It was my birthday recently, and my Mother, who knows I like to photograph cotton reels with haberdashery and half-dolls, gave me three beautifully hand painted half-dolls as part of my birthday gift. I decided to use them for this theme, and originally I had two painted half-dolls flanking an unpainted bisque one. However, I wasn’t happy with the results. Then I thought of the story of Beauty and the Beast, and Beauty’s wicked sisters, who whilst beautiful, paled in comparison to their little sister. This then inspired me to swap things around, and use the two unpainted bisque half-dolls I own who are paling in comparison to my new painted half-doll in the middle, just like Beauty and her sisters. Half-dolls generally don’t have legs, and none of mine do, so to give the illusion of legs, their bases are swathed in vintage lace, trims and tassels that hang down, looking like wonderful fantasy gowns. I hope you like my choice of subject for this week’s theme, and that it makes you smile.
The "half-doll" is a dainty porcelain or bisque figurine, fashionable in the early Twentieth Century with an upper body, head, arms, but no legs. These dolls were produced in the thousands at the height of their popularity by German factories such as Dressel and Kister, Heubach, Goebel and Kestner. Later they were produced in France, America and later still, in Japan. They commonly served as handles and toppers for fabric covers made for powder boxes on ladies’ dressing tables and small brushes, however they were also made for jewellery boxes, pincushions, tea cosies and other covers. In this case, the central “odd one out” who is painted is brand new, but cast from an old mould. Most half-dolls were painted and glazed, but a smaller number, like my two vintage German half-dolls have been left unpainted, in their natural bisque state. Whilst my new one has a tassel and is designed to hang from a doorknob or china cabinet, the two vintange ones would have been made for a lady’s boudoir and were most likely the topper for powder bowls. They all stand at three and a half inches in height.
No significant changes to this fountain after a major make over of the Suntec Mall. The light shows nightly seems to be loosing its attraction compared to before.
ABOUT THE FOUNTAIN OF WEALTH:
The Fountain of Wealth symbolizes wealth. In Chinese culture, water symbolizes wealth and life and the inward movement of water signifies the preservation of wealth for Suntec City. During certain periods of the day, the main fountain is turned off, so visitors are able to walk around a mini fountain at the center of the fountain’s base for good luck. At night, the fountain is the setting for laser performances, as well as “live” song and laser message dedications.

A pair of Lehigh Railway U23B's cross the Susquehanna River at Towanda, PA on a 98 degree beach day. Living inward from the coast, people would consider the river shorelines as their beaches. No one is attending on this day.
With Infrared being about the 'unseen', it’s got me thinking about 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 (NIV). Life has been extremely crazy, so I am looking forward to spending more time being renewed with Jesus.
16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
I'm quite pleased with my first infrared picture. Originally, I oddly like the lens glare, but then felt annoyed with during the editing, but decided to keep it in the end. It was quite a learning curve to get here, so I've listed some of the most helpful guides to me below. It's also the first picture I've posted since Lent as my previous computer died during the first week of Lent. It was nice to give it up for a while, but I was really excited when my new computer arrived. I spent all weekend getting it setup, and was practically frantic about trying to get it up to speed. I wish I would have spent more time with Jesus during the process. Even when I finally got everything set up, I felt apprehensive about starting, but everything was wonderful. Hopefully at some point I'll get my camera converted so I can get away from long exposures, but it’s been a lot of fun being with Infrared photography. I imagine there will be different spectrums of light to play with in heaven

I jiggled the door handle (preparing to let Camille in). Jimmy leaned inward, away from the window, to look at the door and Camille leaned out in perfect symmetry.
The sky tonight from the hills near my home ... looking west to the setting sun, an almost full moon in the east ... then later as the sky darkened, Venus and Sirius shone brightly amongst the constellations .... and here we are on Earth silently dreaming ... a part of it all ....
"From an inward point of view, constantly confirmed by ever-increasing harmonies, the different objects of science become visible in proper perspective and in their true proportions. We see life at the head, with all physics subordinate to it. And at the heart of life, explaining its progression, the impetus of a rise of consciousness".
