Once you turn inward, meditation has started. Meditation means the capacity to be joyously alone, the capacity to be happy with yourself, the capacity to keep company with yourself. To be with yourself is meditation.

Meditation is emptying yourself of all content. When there is no thought moving inside you there is stillness; that stillness is meditation. Not even a ripple arises in the lake of your consciousness; that silent lake, absolutely still, that is meditation.

Gold Creek Pond - Hyak, Washington.

The final, full flush of the radiant leaves of Autumn. There are only 2 or 3 days of each October, every year, that are this idyllic, with the leaves blazing in their final colours in the golden sun of early evening under almost hallucinogenically blue skies.

It's the kind of blue you see at much greater heights. With a lot of summer's diffusing haze of humidity that washes out the sky, gone, the pureness of the sky blue shines unfiltered. Usually, blue is considered a "receding" or inward colour. Skies like this flip blue around across the line until it virtually radiates outward.

"Why do we pity people who cannot travel? Because by not being able to expand outwardly, they are also unable to expand inwardly, they cannot multiply, and so they are deprived of the possibility of making far-reaching excursions into themselves and discovering who and what else they could also have become." "Warum bedauern wir Leute, die nicht reisen können? Weil sie sich, indem sie sich äußerlich nicht ausbreiten können, auch innerlich nicht auszudehnen vermögen, sie können sich nicht vervielfältigen, und so ist ihnen die Möglichkeit genommen, weitläufige Ausflüge in sich selbst zu unternehmen und zu entdecken, wer und was anderes sie auch hätten werden können." NO MULTIPLE INVITATIONS PLEASE Thank you!

After the "Baroque" nature of the last few images, "Silence" offers both a simpler and a more inward mood. This image is meant to convey a sense of contemplation and a kind of waiting. For answers? Possibly. For some kind of change? Likely. In the last image on the right ..... waiting dissolutely for the subway train on a lonely platform ...

The text in this piece is used as a formal visual element only. It's a form of drawing and isn't intended to symbolize or suggest meaning, same as the Loquacious Oblivious Rex series..

All three of the main images were either taken at night or at pre-dawn as the sky just begins to show the first shift in the east from the absolute dark of night to the coming of light. While still deep in the dark, the image then hints in a whisper of the arrival of hope. A metaphor for our very dark times.

On this morning, my hopes were dashed for a wonderous Summer sunrise. Dashed by the dark storm marching over the river to invade the marsh. I found the form and symmetry interesting on this morning along with dappled tones in the water. I chose to preserve the feel of ripples in the water as the breeze moved inward.

The reflections in the interesting glass facades of the cube Berlin seem to symbolize our world in this momentary state of disorder and turmoil.. .

The essense of dawn during an early Autumn morning. I have recently switched to full frame with a new Canon 6D and have been spending a lot of time adjusting. Originally, I was going to reveal the marsh grass in its entirety, but instead decided that a silhouette was more effective. This led to an inside joke that this photo "isn't about the grass." Sometimes, less is more I suppose. As the clouds moved inward, the color quickly faded revealing a new scene soon to come...

No one outside ourselves can rule us inwardly. When we know this, we become free.

When a crane comes into your life as a spirit teacher or totem, you are being asked to use your past as a source of strength in the present. They tend to appear in the lives of people who are well served by some degree of secrecy in their lives. The crane teaches about keeping your own counsel, protection of family, and balance in life above all else.💕

An encounter with a crane is a powerful experience. You are being asked to look inward, show fairness to all persons, and protect your wisdom while sharing it in appropriate ways. In short, you are being shown the way to balance and good fortune❣

One of the most ancient and enduring symbols, its represents the winding journeys, we must take inward if we're to truly know & love ourselves. From these never ending journeys, we return with infinitely more power and wisdom.

The trees near the brook bending inward to almost form an archway over this section of water. Such a beautiful area.

Well, probably not. Bound to go there again. But we already had Seconds Out and Round Two 😁

I was really surprised how similar the comps were between this and my previous attempt. Interesting to see how my processing has changed since though. Thinking the earlier one needs a reprocess, loved it at the time and now having a little inward cringe!

Dawn at Monastery of Dionysiou, Mount Athos

Dionysiou Monastery was built in the middle 14th century by the monk Dionysious of Koryssos in the Kastoria precinct, with the financial support of the emperor Alexius III Comnenos of Trapezous. In 1535 the monastery has been destroyed by fire. It was rebuilt and from then onwards its architecture and buildings remain unaltered.

It is one of the most bold architechtural structures, built on a rock, high above the sea. Although the inward space is rather limited, there is however not only the central church, but also several chapels, many of which are wall-painted. Inside the monastery there is also the defensive tower, built in 1520 and used periodically for the safe keeping of the monastery/s library.

The monastery is inhabited today by a new dynamic monastic community, which has undertaken the redecoration of the old buildings.

The Katholican frescoes dated in 1546 are the work of the painter Georges, one of the main representatives of the Cretan school in the middle 16th century. The Refectory/s frescoes had been executed in two separate phases: in the middle 16th century and in 1603. The monastery possesses one of the most remarkable collections of works of art (mainly portable icons) as well as illuminated manus cripts.

" I'm afraid to say the wrong thing

Criticized from every angle

And I'm afraid to lay it on the line

And selfishly I wanna hold back

Do we got the room to make mistakes?

Are we judged for everything we said?

I wanna grow but I'm afraid

And will it always be the same?

Does what I gotta say even matter?

Is life about climbing up the ladder

And can we even see lives that are shattered?

'Cause I'm really tryna silence the chatter

What have we done with society?

When everybody's getting canceled

And can't there be room for maturity?

'Cause writing 'em off is not the answer

We can't write people off

God never writes us off

Even in our darkest days, even when we least deserve it

Even when we're doing that stupid thing we wish we weren't doing

God never writes us off, ever

He's with us in our pain, He's with us in our struggle

He's with us in our bad decisions

He's with us all the time, He never writes us off

You formed the whole of me

Inward and out

I am awesomely and wonderfully created

Your creations are spectacular

You skillfully designed me

You saw the essence of me, before I was formed

Before I existed, all of my days were written in your book."

Packed in my mind lie all the clothes

Which outward nature wears,

And in its fashion's hourly change

It all things else repairs.

In vain I look for change abroad,

And can no difference find,

Till some new ray of peace uncalled

Illumes my inmost mind.

What is it gilds the trees and clouds,

And paints the heavens so gay,

But yonder fast-abiding light

With its unchanging ray?

Lo, when the sun streams through the wood,

Upon a winter's morn,

Where'er his silent beams intrude

The murky night is gone.

How could the patient pine have known

The morning breeze would come,

Or humble flowers anticipate

The insect's noonday hum,—

Till the new light with morning cheer

From far streamed through the aisles,

And nimbly told the forest trees

For many stretching miles?

I've heard within my inmost soul

Such cheerful morning news,

In the horizon of my mind

Have seen such orient hues,

As in the twilight of the dawn,

When the first birds awake,

Are heard within some silent wood,

Where they the small twigs break,

Or in the eastern skies are seen,

Before the sun appears,

The harbingers of summer heats

Which from afar he bears.

Zinnia's composite flowers consist of ray florets that surround disk florets, which may be a different color than the ray florets and mature from the periphery inward. The flowers have a range of appearances, from a single row of petals to a dome shape. Zinnias may be white, chartreuse, yellow, orange, red, purple, or lilac.

During our 2023 journey across the vast Serengeti plains, a small but fascinating drama unfolded before us.

We came upon a troop of monkeys whose attention was entirely focused inward. The monkeys were engaged in the communal, rhythmic activity of allogrooming—meticulously picking through each other's fur.

This isn't just a casual pastime; it's an act of profound social and biological significance. In this harsh, challenging environment, where survival hinges on alertness and cooperation, we could clearly see how vital this behavior is.

The primary function of grooming is to keep the monkeys clean and pest-free, removing bothersome parasites, ticks, and debris. This simple act is crucial for preventing disease and maintaining the health of the individual.

Beyond hygiene, grooming is a powerful form of social currency. By sharing this intimate, time-consuming task, they reinforce trust, cement hierarchical relationships, and reduce stress within the group. It is a non-verbal assurance of mutual support.

It was striking to realize that even among these wild creatures, constantly navigating the dangers of the bush, the fundamental need for cleanliness and physical well-being—and the social mechanisms used to achieve it—are as deeply ingrained and important to their species as they are to our own.

The Mosque: Where hearts turn inward, seeking solace, guidance, and connection with the divine.

The Istiqlal Mosque (yes, those are people on the floor . view large)

Istiqlal Mosque, located in Jakarta, Indonesia, stands as the largest mosque in Southeast Asia and the ninth largest worldwide in terms of its capacity for worshippers.

Its name, "Istiqlal," is Arabic for "independence," reflecting its construction as a commemoration of Indonesian independence. This national mosque of Indonesia officially opened its doors to the public on February 22, 1978.

Notably, within Jakarta, the mosque occupies a significant location adjacent to Merdeka Square, the Catholic Jakarta Cathedral, and the Reformed Immanuel Church, symbolizing a degree of interfaith harmony.

These days will pass. Sometimes I have to go inward to find the way out. One positive thing about that is that I don't have to leave the house to do it.

When the wind works against us in the dark,

And pelts with snow

The lowest chamber window on the east,

And whispers with a sort of stifled bark,

The beast,

'Come out! Come out!'-

It costs no inward struggle not to go,

Ah, no!

I count our strength,

Two and a child,

Those of us not asleep subdued to mark

How the cold creeps as the fire dies at length,-

How drifts are piled,

Dooryard and road ungraded,

Till even the comforting barn grows far away

And my heart owns a doubt

Whether 'tis in us to arise with day

And save ourselves unaided.

Robert Frost

“For oft, when on my couch I lie

In vacant or in pensive mood,

They flash upon that inward eye

Which is the bliss of solitude;

And then my heart with pleasure fills,

And dances with the daffodils.”

during this pandemic, and all its complexities, we're like these tender, brave, vulnerable flowers. we're alone yet together. we're ready to blossom in creative, radical, and beautiful ways. still, we must be patient. we must wait gently, as we tend inward and outward with love.
