I am posting all of my favorite shots from my trip to Invermere. I usually don’t post so many shots all at once, but I want to get them in my photostream. If you care to comment, a comment about the series or a particular shot works for me. Flickr should be fun, not tedious. I will catch up on my contact’s recent shots over the next couple of days.

This little guy decided to come over and check me out.

Head north or south by water from Inveremere. Columbia River Canoe Kayak will take you on interpretive tours - up to 10 ppl - or you can start from Fairmont Hot Springs and float back to Invermere over a three hour experience.

Another Lake Windermere shot. I never get tired of photographing it. The canvas changes constantly day by day and season by season.

A tiny peninsula with larch trees on Azure Lake / Buster Lake

Having lived most of my life in an island, the beach with ocean waves is what I miss the most.

Mt Swansea rises above the Columbia Valley village of Invermere, BC in the Canadian Rockies. It is beautifully developed for hiking and mountain biking, and the summit is used for launching hang gliders as well. At the top is a strange structure which houses a weather station. While there was little snow in the valley, at the summit the snow was still quite deep, but it still early March after all.

Picture # 10 and final one of this story.

Here is another car we jumped.

1984. Here is the beginning of the story.

Ok, at this point, the old girl was on her last legs, but still moving. The engine was chained down so as to not bang against the hood as you stepped on the gas. The muffler was also chained on because we've lost it so many times I got tired of hiking back and fetching it, so it would drag along behind hooked to a chain. The trany linkage had broken off so I had to pop the hood, and using a stick to put it into gear, second was all I had left that went forward, and before the car started driving away, close the hood and jump in, not forgetting the stick in case I had to shift later. I won't go into the gory details how we slaughtered some trees, in case there are some huggers out there, but slaughter we did. This was crown land slated for development sometime in the future and was not endangered habitat. There, now it's ok.

The car died the next day upon impact of three big trees at about 30mph. Yes, we were still mph. I have only one thing to say,..........OUCH! ... Don't do that !!! It was probably more like 25 because I jammed out the last ten feet or so. Also, the accuracy of the speedometer could be in question at this time, as well, one must factor in adrenalin. The chained on engine decided to make its exit and left us all alone with bruised shoulders. We came back the next day to drag her to a proper burial location, but alas, someone had stolen her. I can see why, she had character. Found out later, some other locals happened to be cruzing around the bush in their one ton flat deck, looking for a Ford Galaxy, when "low and behold", a beauty. No one around to claim her, so, finders keepers. She sits (to this day perhaps), in a junk yard surrounded by her fellow iron warriors of demolition.

Day 13 : Night in Invermere, BC in Copper Resort. Nice hotel and great resting night. Today, I planned on hiking Kindersley Pass / Sinclair Creek loop. During summers and fall days, there is a group restriction for this trail : your hiking group must be at least 4 persons. Since I hike solo, I went to the trailhead and waited for a car to stop. I almost waited 2 hours drinking my coffee when 2 cars stopped. A group of locals and former Parks Canada employees get out and I asked them to join them, and they accepted. I spent a wonderful day with great persons. Thanks again Nora, Doug, and their friends! That was an amazing hike!

Yeah, sometimes it's just that good. I have been contemplating a fuji gx680 because of those intangible qualities film possesses. Maybe I'm crazy but sometimes I fantasize selling my d700 and going all film (to be sure I love that camera as well for many, many reasons).

A simple portrait of my Sister in Law on Lake Windermere. We had a nice ski that day.

Inukshuks were traditionally built "to let people know we were here". Today they represent a symbol of friendship and good luck by the Inuit and their fellow Canadians. This stately Inukshuk, with Mount Swansea and Lake Windermere in the background, welcomes visitors to the beautiful community of Invermere-on-the-Lake.

Looking north to Radium Hot Springs, the Columbia River snakes its way through the valley bottom with the majestic Rocky Mountains to the east and the Purcell Mountains to the west. Known as the "Serengeti of the North", the Columbia Valley is home to one of North America's longest continuous wetlands.
