....are what I have to hang onto these days. They are a blessing and a breather amid the madness.
Another for Fence Friday.
I posted a similar image a couple of weeks ago but this little dear/deer ;-) is just too adorable not to share some more. Hope this gives you the warm 'n' fuzzies for a Happy Fence Friday :-)
I found a couple of artistic treasures this summer while visiting Invermere and neighbouring Windermere (where I captured this). Lovely mini murals painted (graffitied?) atop weathered plywood covering unused/broken windows. Alas there was no clue as to the artist.
Soaking in the beauty, silence, sunshine, and solitude of kayaking on the Columbia River from Invermere to Radium, BC.

From my "Wings Over the Rockies" trip last week. This eagle flew overhead very close several times. No crop at all on this shot although I have several in which I clipped off various parts of the anatomy.

I was happy to spot this artwork covering a weathered plywood board nailed to an ugly stucco wall (per previous image), incorporating a wall socket in a parking lot in Invermere, BC.
I am at my happiest around horses, they are truly magical and I've loved them for as long as I can remember - my personal soul food, along with listening to Cat Stevens.
I am in no doubt as to their emotional and physical healing powers and definitely need to spend more time around them.

If you find yourself in the Invermere/Fairmont region of the Columbia River in BC, it's definitely worth doing the short hike to and around the hoodoos - just don't go too close the edge.
I had a great opportunity to practice some flight shots during a couple of days away in British Columbia. These Osprey were very cooperative. Another photo is in the comment box.
Many thanks for your visit and comments. They are very much appreciated.
This is pretty much the postcard view we enjoyed from the cottage we rented for our recent holiday in Invermere, BC. A very scenic, warm and welcoming town with lots to do and no sense of rush to do anything :-)

I posted three shots of a Grizzly sighting taken on my way to the "Wings Over the Rockies Festival" in Invermere, British Columbia. They were right off the road. Stopping is frowned upon, but I could not resist the chance to get my first shots of this beautiful animal.

A cross country skier traversing Lake Lillian with the assistance of his faithful husky.
Lake Lillian is perhaps a 10 minute drive north of Invermere, B.C. on the way to Panorama Ski resort.
Four more images for my Canada 150 project taken at the Wings Over the Rockies festival around Invermere, BC. This is a long shot and heavily cropped, but my only chance for a shot of one of the birds I most wanted to see there.
I also posted shots of Marsh Wren, Western Tanager, and Cinnamon Teal.

CP 3039, along with 3 other EMDs, leads the southbound wayfreight through Invermere,BC. After working in the siding at Windermere, the train will continue south to Skookumchuck where it has more work. It will then hit Fort Steele, before heading west towards Trail,BC.
The mountain is Mt Brewer in the interior of British Columbia taken from Panorama ski resort. This season was a very good early snowfall and the helicopters were making frequent sorties with the hardcore powder buffs aboard.
While it isn't the highest mountain in the area, I really like its profile, it's just very...err, mountainy. Sun was just rising over the next row of mountains bathing the low lying clouds and the face of Mt Brewer in the warm early winter light. This is not a well known area (Banff is about 1000X time more photographed) but there is lots of beautiful winter photography to be had in the BC interior.
We were canoeing on one of the many lakes in and about Invermere, British Columbia when we had to cease paddling due to a Mama Duck leading her brood of ducklings across the lake.
Love how the little ones stay in line; now if I could only get my offspring to tow the line.
Another hidden treasure, I love finding these things. Random yet quite lovely painting on damaged plywood nailed to ugly stucco on the back side of a small commercial building in Invermere, BC. Wish I could have photographed it at a better angle but this painting faced into a parking lot and there was a vehicle parked right in front here.
I wonder what the story is behind this - and its artist.

My view from the kayak during a serene evening paddle on the river.
A few days after returning home from vacationing in Invermere we learned that a large forest fire started and several homes have been evacuated.
Hoping for an end to all the fires that have been raging through the province.

This shot was taken at a lovely little lake called Lillian in the Columbia Valley a few kilometers west of Invermere, British Columbia, Canada.
Kate Atkinson's books are like a trip back to the home country for me. She captures so well the small towns, characters, and general quirkiness of the areas right around where I grew up in the north of England :-) Since I can't travel there for a while, this book has been like a mini nostalgic visit. Happy Sliders Sunday.

Good news, my story about our backpacking adventures in the Canadian Rockies is now up on my website (link below). I will be delaying posting my gallery release because this week I will be flying back to Canada and will be photographing more images to hopefully add to what I currently have. In the meantime I’d like to share this photo with you, along with my story of our time in Canada and different locations spent along the way. In my story I share some tips on gear and apps that you can use, I found them quite valuable during our trip.
After several hours of traveling we arrived at a town named Invermere, there we set off for our steep, 4-mile (2600 elevation gain) climb to Jumbo Pass. The track rises from the forest below Bastille Mountain’s ramparts before the incredible panorama opens out across the Jumbo and Karnak Mountains. To one side of the mountains there is a stunning Horseshoe Glacier tumbling from the Cauldron Mountain right into the other. The only way I can describe the hike was as if you were constantly climbing up a set of stairs, loaded down with 43 pounds of camping and photography gear, what a workout! We decided to spend the night there, shooting both sunset and the sunrise with stunning fields of wildflowers sprawled against the rugged peaks. I hope you enjoy the photo as much as I have!

Grinda and Coola are two rescued Frizzly bears that roam in a 5 acre plot in Grouse Mountain Sanctuary. They were rescued as cubs when they were around 6 months old. Grinder was found emaciated and dehydrated on a forestry service road near Invermere in the BC Rocky Mountain range. Coola was found near Bella Coola on the BC Coast, next to his mother who had been killed by a vehicle. Grinder and Coola were orphaned in the wild and rescued in May 2001 which now makes them 23 years old. Grouse Mountain monitors Grinder and Coola 365 days a year with webcams.

Courtesy of a (pretty leisurely) 4-hour, one way kayak rental along the Columbia River from Invermere to Radium, BC through Columbia River Paddle - columbiariverpaddle.com. Stunning scenery all the way!
I would highly recommend it and same for the rental place, great service and they do pick you up in Radium by the way, so you don't have to swim/walk back ;-)

This doe and fawn were observed and photographed while hiking near the town of Invermere, British Columbia, Canada. In developing this image, I used Photoshop to apply a few painting brushstrokes.
home from a cruise around the San Juan Islands (just guessing!) ...seen on a Sunday afternoon as sun was setting around Turkey Head aka The Oak Bay Marina
...just took the last tray of shortbread out of the oven...so now to rest, and enjoy that rum and eggnog!! ho ho ho

4 inquiring minds (Liz!) I am only flying to Cranbrook and then driving up to Invermere to spend time with my parents and one of my sister's and her daughter...so will be hanging around the Rockies and Radium Hot Springs (and yep, I am prepared for airport waits as yet another snow storm is predicted to blow thro Victoria on the weekend (and yikes my plane takes to the air at 5:30 am, I'm a believer!!)
and how I have all my gifts wrapped is because I make them...no buying and mall trolling for me!

circles his prey waiting patiently for the opportune time to move in and pounce.
The target of the Fin's strike seemed to be pre-occupied with, it looked like, a cellular device. Distracted driving may provide an appropriate analogy. When travelling in Fin territory one should have access to all of their senses.
Fins are known to travel in packs. Our camera crew became somewhat skittish. We vacated the scene to the safety of our four-wheel drive Smart Car.
We do not know what happened to the unsuspecting, some would say negligent, cell phone user. One could say, perhaps optimistically, that she was calling for help but the picture did not lead us to that conclusion.
