I posted three shots of a Grizzly sighting taken on my way to the "Wings Over the Rockies Festival" in Invermere, British Columbia. They were right off the road. Stopping is frowned upon, but I could not resist the chance to get my first shots of this beautiful animal.

I am back from my trip to Invermere, BC. This unusual looking Common Loon was a highlight.

When I go to Invermere, BC. for the Wings Over the Rockies Festival, I always hope for a shot that shows the beautiful colours of this unique Woodpecker.
"One of the largest species of American woodpeckers, Lewis's woodpecker can measure up to 10–11 inches (25–28 cm) in length.
Lewis's woodpecker engages in some rather un-woodpecker-like behavior in its gregarious feeding habits. Although it does forage for insects by boring into trees with its chisel-like bill, the bird also catches insects in the air during flight, (typical insect hawking)," (Wikipedia)
I had a great time at the "Wings Over the Rockies" event in areas around Invermere, BC. This male Dusky Grouse in mating regalia and attitude was heedless of my proximity while it was focused on a hen just a few feet away and very aware of his rival males.
One of North America’s largest grouse, the Dusky Grouse used to be considered the paler, interior subspecies of the Blue Grouse. Recent DNA evidence supports the spilt of the Blue Grouse into two separate species, the Dusky Grouse and the Sooty Grouse. The male’s deep booming call is hard to locate. A bit of pollen won't stop these two. This lovely couple was caught in a garden in Invermere, British Columbia.
I will be away from Flickr until next week while I participate in the "Wings Over the Rockies Festival" in Invermere, British Columbia. I got off to a great start this morning with this Lewis's Woodpecker.
Happy birding.

I will be away from Flickr for several days while I attend the "Wings Over the Rockies" Festival in Invermere, BC.
I posted two new shots this evening to update my stream.
Happy birding and shooting. I'll tune back in later.
While driving from Cranbrook to Invermere (Canada), we stopped at a viewpoint over Columbia Lake, the main source of the Columbia River.
This is the view in the direction of Canal Flats, a village at the tip of Columbia Lake.
Sometimes I am not really sure what it is that captures my attention to a photo subject. I just remember driving by this garage and liked the way the light hit the weathered wood grain and the way the trees encrouched around it. Here's what I stopped for. #garage #BCtourism #Invermere

This is taken at the public Kinsman Beach in Invermere, BC, Canada. As you can see it was a very quiet morning that would soon be disturbed by summer fun. The haze is smoke from the forest fires that are burning in the province.
This wall of carving/art took me by surprise. Even though the structure looked old, some people were moving around on the terrace(not in the picture) proving that it is inhabited.
I've always found something so magical and calming about animals. What a treat to see this little family in the golden light of an evening walk at Kinsmen Park during our recent holiday in Invermere, BC. I love those backlit ears :-)
We don't get opportunities to photograph Turtles here in central Alberta. I was happy to catch this one basking in the sun in Invermere. BC.
I like this pose because it shows part of the colourful bottom shell (plastron) which accounts for the name.

Invermere, a 4,000 people small community, is the hub of the Columbia Valley in eastern British Columbia, Canada.
The Rocky Mountains to the east shield her from the Arctic air in winter. Hot springs are numerous in the area. Relish a soak in the hot springs after a challenging ski trip in the cold winter is the best New Year treat that I could think of.
The Great Blue Herons that frequent Dorothy Lake in Invermere B.C. are quite used to us humans milling about. I was able to get a full frame body shot of this one, but cropped it to show the small fish it captured.

I have no words. Perhaps not the greatest focus and needless to say (as the titles suggests) I literally held my breath as I took this.
Slow, comfortable and peaceful canoe ride on the Columbia River just north of Invermere, B.C. as the river exits Lake Windermere and continues northwards to Golden.
A lone seagull tries to sleep on the shore of a lake but is disturbed by a very early rising photographer so the seagull gives his best, "I am not impressed!" look.
You can't make up the beautiful 'Canadian-ness' of this scenery, it really is spectacular. This was somewhere enroute between Invermere, BC and Canmore, Alberta - but I'm quite confident it's just over into Alberta. Either way - gorgeous!
I love Toby Creek hat runs from high up in the mountains above Panoroama, BC, into the the beautiful Columbia Valley near Invermere. The color of Toby Creek - a subtle turquoise - is absolutely gorgeous.

His best side! Taken in Invermere, BC
Thank you for your visit and comments. They are very much appreciated.

Another flock thought it was time to move to the other side of the road. We waited patiently(opportunity for me to take some shots)....the white car on the other side didn't expect them to wander on the road... they had to back the car a few feet to make way for these big horns.
This old cute church, so small when compared to other city churches is located on the way to Invermere, BC. God can live anywhere, small or big, even in a man's heart, right :))

Because I wanted to see some sunlight and blue sky, I took this picture from my archives.
Large view is better.
Many thanks to all those who view, fav or comment my pictures. It is much appreciated.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
I am back from the Wings Over the Rockies festival in Invermere British Columbia. I highly recommend this event.
Lewis's Woodpeckers frequent dry open Pine forests and burned areas. They were a tough subject as they were very active making frequent flights from perches to capture insects in the air.
Their flight is similar to Crow flight, and because they are very dark on the wings and large for a Woodpecker, they do look like Crows in flight from a distance. They would not allow a close approach and could see me moving through their open habitat.
I put these in the mosaic format because of the big crop I needed to provide a decent look at the bird.

Not your typical fence. Looks like one of those old Civil War fences. One becomes too accustomed to the suburbia type looking fence.
I generalize but I believe the developer tends to drool when shown a buck and by-passes, purposely or due to budget constraints, the aesthetic value of a project. "I want the new Lexus; guess I'll have to cut back on quality or art."

Fabulous landscape and scenery spotted enroute between Invermere, BC and Canmore, Alberta although I'm quite sure this was on the Alberta side.
:-) HFF!
Posting early because (a) I'll likely forget to and, (b) I'll be travelling all day this Friday towards Invermere, BC for a vacation in the Rockies. Any photo spot/viewpoint recommendations around Invermere, Banff, Canmore are greatly appreciated ;-)
This is just a portion of the stunning landscape around Invermere that we had kayaked the day previous on that thar Columbia River. The scenery in this area really is amazing - from up here and down there on the water.
