My first attempt at astrophotography. I found personally on a 16mm lens the sweet spot was no more than 20 seconds of exposure before star trails started to become an issue.

There was a little bit of light pollution but for the most part it was an amazing night. Cloudless and in cottage country.

You could faintly see the Milky Way with your eyes. I left the trees in for perspective and reality.

More health-care seats are being added to the health-care assistant program at College of the Rockies in Invermere, as a result of one-time funding of $118,000 to ensure that the demands of an aging population can be met in the community.

We had two full days in the Columbia River Valley, based in Invermere, BC. The first day was rainy, and so we did a little drive to nearby Kimberly and Cranbrook, as well as just hang out in Invermere. We ended up taking in the beautiful waters of Fairmont Hot Springs.

CP ES44AC 8743 rounds the corner southbound with its train of empty CP coal cars (as required from Golden, BC to Sparwood, BC) thru Invermere along the CP Windermere Subdivision on a beautiful late June morning.

Mt Swansea rises above the Columbia Valley village of Invermere, BC in the Canadian Rockies. It is beautifully developed for hiking and mountain biking, and the summit is used for launching hang gliders as well. At the top is a strange structure which houses a weather station. While there was little snow in the valley, at the summit the snow was still quite deep, but it still early March after all.

One of the more bizarre geological features in Southeastern BC, near Canal Flats

We're taking a well-deserved break on the 'warm side' of the Rockies in British Columbia, near places like Invermere, Fairmont Hot Springs, and Radium Hot Springs. Couldn't resist a little hike, though... lots of wildflowers and wonderful views.

These are the last un-posted shots from my trip to Invermere, BC in early May. Both of these species are common here in central Alberta as well. These are my best shots of Brewer's Blackbirds to date, and the first time I have captured a Solitary Sandpiper in a tree. This is not unusual for these Sandpipers since they nest in both coniferous and deciduous trees often utilizing old Robin nests or the old nests of other birds of a similar size if they are found near water.
