If you find yourself in the Invermere/Fairmont region of the Columbia River in BC, it's definitely worth doing the short hike to and around the hoodoos - just don't go too close the edge.

Eagle perched patiently on a tree branch on the bluffs overlooking the Columbia River Valley near Invermere, British Columbia.
The pesky dragon fly seems to have caught the eagle's attention. I don't know the insect's fate; whether he ended up being a snack or simply a distraction.
Invermere. I have been wanting this shot for along time. I was finally in the right spot at the right time.
A Group of big horn sheep snacking along the way. This is one of the pictures from my Rocky mountain visit.

Many thanks to all those who view, fav or comment my pictures. It is much appreciated.
I am posting all of my favorite shots from my trip to Invermere. I usually don’t post so many shots all at once, but I want to get them in my photostream. If you care to comment, a comment about the series or a particular shot works for me. Flickr should be fun, not tedious. I will catch up on my contact’s recent shots over the next couple of days.

Mt Swansea rises above the Columbia Valley village of Invermere, BC in the Canadian Rockies. It is beautifully developed for hiking and mountain biking, and the summit is used for launching hang gliders as well. At the top is a strange structure which houses a weather station. While there was little snow in the valley, at the summit the snow was still quite deep, but it still early March after all.
Nestled between the towering peaks of the Purcell and Rocky Mountains, this day-use area provincial park is situated at the north end of 15 kilometres long Windermere Lake.
A broad, sandy beach backed with open, grassy play areas offers pleasant surroundings for families who enjoy lakeshore recreation. Windsurfing, canoeing, kayaking, swimming are popular activities. There is an adventure playground and a volleyball court.

For the past eight years I have had the pleasure of leading a bird walk at beautiful Lake Enid which is nestled in the montane region west of Invermere.
For the past three years, my sister Kathy (yellow jacket) added to this hike by talking about the flora and geology of Lake Enid. I am fourth from the left.
The big guy is Andy and his wife Julie is beside him. They are from Bristol. England. They made Wings a destination for their western Canada trip as many Europeans have done over the twenty-three years of this week long festival.
Wings is as much about like-minded people as it is about wildlife.
Eight hundred people from many places registered for the 100 events this year and hiked, canoed, and kayaked through this beautiful place. Think about next May for a great experience. The link below will be updated over the next few months.

Indeed. That pretty much sums things up over the past 11 days, especially this view from beer - the lovely, sunny view from the front patio of the cottage we rented in Invermere, BC, and in the company of warm, golden evening sunshine, mountains, the beautiful blue lake, a local hazy IPA, and Kate Atkinson's "Big Sky" - just the holiday read I was needing. Bliss :-)

While canoeing the Columbia River just north of Invermere, British Columbia we spotted a pair of eagles perched on a tree high up on the bluffs.
After we finished our slow but scenic paddle we decided to see if we could get a better angle to view the eagles. We drove up out of the valley and headed to a spot where we thought we might be able to see them.
Well, we got lucky and managed to capture this shot of one of the magnificent birds relaxing on a tree branch ignoring the dragonfly fluttering beside him.

CP 5000 leads the wayfreight southbound through Invermere, BC which is Windermere on the CP timetable. Here they pass Dorothy Lake, which is more like a pond.

These guys were pulsing through the Invermere area while I was there last week. They breed in this area as well. It is always great to see them.

I am back from the Wings Over The Rockies festival in Invermere, BC.. The Lewis's Woodpecker is the bird I most wanted to get good images of. I posted a shot of a pair yesterday. Many of those who commented on the pair shot said they had never seen one. Here is a closer look.
After being away, I am way behind on comments. I will catch up over the next couple of days.

Partridge Family Breakup - please, say it's not true
These birdies have reached a crack in the road and will have to reach some form of compromise to breach that void.

These aren't the sharpest of shots, but they are a first for me.
I was hoping to find Lewis's Woodpeckers on my trip to Invermere, BC. Sibley describes these as uncommon and local. They frequent dry open Pine forests and burned areas. They were a tough subject as they were very active making frequent flights from perches to capture insects in the air.
Their flight is similar to Crow flight, and because they are very dark on the wings and large for a Woodpecker, they do look like Crows in flight from a distance. They would not allow a close approach when perched.
