It is said that the Fideuá was invented in Gandía (Valencia, Spain), when the cook of a fishing boat based in Gandía was preparing a paella for the fishermen after the harsh fishing activities.

Suddenly the cook realized that he had all the ingredients ready, but no rice.

So he decided to use some pasta noodles that he had stored.

The resulting dish was the Fideuá.

The dish that you see here does not have exactly the same ingredients as the original recipe, nor the noodles are of the correct caliber, but it is quite close.

We are talking about fish and seafood, such as cod, cuttlefish, big shrimps, a stir-fry of onion and garlic, fish broth and some dressings such as salt, paprika, a little parsley and let's taste it.

As an accompanying drink, we always suggest white wine for seafood.

And this time, the only white wine we had available was an excellent Riesling wine from the banks of the Moselle River (Germany). Hmmmm!

Becherovka. Invented by Czech pharmacist Jan Becher.

Possibly the most vile alcoholic beverage in the world.

Photo from last night's OffShoot meeting.

According to the museum dedicated to the secrets of Becher's witches' brew:

" It has been 200 years since the Becherovka recipe first saw the light of day, or to be more precise the gloom of the Becher pharmacy in the House of the Three Skylarks (U tří skřivanů) in Karlovy Vary. The museum is part of the production plant that replaced the original pharmacy approximately 150 years ago. The guided tour includes a visit to the original cellars and some of the production premises. Some places, on the other hand, are strictly off-limits. For example, the "Drogikamr" room has only ever been entered by the anointed few. Behind its bolted doors, experienced hands gather several times a year to weigh the precise amounts of dried flowers, leaves, bark and ground root in order to carefully mix the fragrant blend of twenty herbs and spices that forms the basis of the future liqueur."

Ciclotrama is a neologism invented by Janaina Mello Landini to designate the project that the artist has been developing since 2010.

Working with wires and ropes, she creates in situ installations that occupy the space in an immersive and unexpected way.

For her, a Ciclotrama is the section of a continuous and binary cycle. It is a schematic structure with a hierarchical feature, composed of interdependent parts, replaying both a vast syntopia and an entropy, opposite of the same system composed by individuals.

The main idea of the artist is to create a physical experience of tension, portraying imaginary networks that define spaces and tell stories. The social mapping of individual networks shows the infinite interconnectedness and interdependence of personal trajectories across a system, society and the world as a whole. The movement of bodies (strings) and the relation between rhythm and time are also fundamental aspects of these series.

In Chaumont-sur-Loire, Janaina Mello Landini has conceived an original project for the Farm Court Asinerie where arachneal suspended structures play with the wooden architecture of the gallery.

In 1868, British police first manually used red and green gas lights to control horse carriage traffic at night outside the House of Commons. According to Washington State University Magazine, the Americans then contributed the following:

"American policeman Lester Wire designed the first electric traffic light. It was first installed in Cleveland, Ohio, on August 5, 1914, at the corner of 105th and Euclid Avenue.

1917 — First interconnected traffic signal system installed in Salt Lake City, with six connected intersections controlled simultaneously from a manual switch.

1920 — William Potts, a Detroit policeman, invented the first four-way and three-colored traffic lights. He introduced yellow lights to indicate the light would change soon. Detroit became the first city to implement the four-way and three-colored traffic lights."

Solo pochi attimi.

It was invented by the german printer Ernst Litfaß about 1854. He got from the city administration of Berlin the exclusive rights to erect these pillars, the till nowadays so called: "Litfaßsäule", in the beginning "Annonciersäule" ("annoncieren" = old german word for advertising). They have been used to inform the public for news. The first "war dispatches / telegrams 1870/1871 had been published this way. Later the Litfaßsäulen" were mainly used for advertising. In the year 2005 there have been still 51000 of these pillars in use in Germany, but also they could be seen in Vienna.

This one is an advertising pillar at the Rhine river banks in Düsseldorf, in the background the television tower which belongs to the typical silhouette of Düsseldorf city. Since 2001 the artist Christoph Pöggeler presents sculptures of typical regional people on a part of these pillars. It`s an art project called "Säulenheilige" (Saints of the pillars).

I invented this useful cheap way to keep your cable tidy. Perfect for your iPod iDog companion (if you have). Otherwise you could use this for any long cable wires. For bigger cable like TV, use bigger bone (need harder material). Make sure the CUT is not too big, so the cable can slide fit into the HOLE.

Aquí l'invent.

Aquí el invento.

Here the invention.

Inventarlo - questo sarebbe stato meraviglioso.

Japan, Meat, Poultry, Yakimono, culinary temptations, Yakimono, “Kushiyaky” are dishes using mainly beef, pork, poultry, seafood, vegetables or tofu are some of the most common foods prepared on a skewers & either grilled on fire or pan-fried.

The term “Yakimono” refers to a dish cooked over direct heat: “yaki” means “grilled” or “fried,” & “mono” means “thing, item.”

Mainly, there are 3 kinds of Yakimono in Japanese cuisine;

📍 Kushiyaki, grilled with skewers,

📍 Jibiyaki, directly grilled on fire,

📍 Kansetsuyaki, indirectly grilled, marinated or salt crusted grilled skewers.

It is believed that yakimono was invented by soldiers who impaled chunks of meat on their swords & stuck them into a fire. A typical yakimono dish is prepared as small pieces of food on bamboo skewers, the most famous of these dishes in the West being “Yakitori”, grilled chicken skewer.

Most yakimono dishes are served piping hot, as an appetizer or as a part of a larger course of appetizers. There are also some other popular yakimono dishes that are not skewered, such as gyoza, pan-fried dumplings that are often filled with vegetables & pork, the basic type of yakimono is shioyaki, in which salt is coarsely sprinkled over the food before grilling.

Hi, all.

Here's a game I invented all by myself along the high and smoothly snow-packed slopes of the nearby hydro corridor when I was only two years old! I call it Ballstomp. Dad has very few videos of me from back then and this is one of the more fun ones, as it highlights part of my whacky personality. It's not the greatest quality, but we hope you enjoy it.

(I had a great time on my birthday a few days ago, and as a side present my photo got into Explore.

For one of the few times in my life I got to eat my fill at dinner. Dad didn't want to alter my diet too much so most of it was my regular stuff, but plenty of turkey and some gravy was added and it was D-licious! I even wasn't sure I could finish it all in one go but don't you worry, I did. My tummy was round as the cow squeak toy I got as a present!

Normally I would get another ball or two but Dad says enough already. I'm not so sure. I only have about thirty balls left after the last spring cleanup, though to be fair I only really use my favorite ten or so.

The squeek toy kinda freaks me out, but I've found that it's apparently annoying as heck when I really get going on it, so there, Dad: maybe a ball would have been better?)

"Charlie Bucket stared around the gigantic room in which he now found himself. The place was like a witch's kitchen! All about him black metal pots were boiling and bubbling on huge stoves, and kettles were hissing and pans were sizzling, and strange iron machines were clanking and spluttering, and there were pipes running all over the ceiling and walls, and the whole place was filled with smoke and steam and delicious rich smells."

So who invented Slider Sunday anyway?

Can't believe it's here again!

Should I begin at the beginning?

While in Maine, we walk the beach, collect treasures and do art from our inspirational finds ... that's about it! In addition to my weaving, I love collage.

Step One:

This began as a piece of watercolor paper to which I appliqued a photograph of a birch tree and a strip of torn paper.

Step Two:

I set the unfinished piece in the picture window to photograph.

The actual rocks were selected for shapes and placed on the windowsill in front of the paper.

The grey diagonal piece on the right is part of the curtain.

The green "kelp" is a ribbon from my weaving.

Step Three:

As mentioned, at that point, the rest of the piece was blank,

so tonight, I added a calligraphic alphabet and

two sandpipers which I'd spent hours trying to photograph . . .

still an impossible task for me, as they are so fast!

Voilá . . . thanks for sharing my Sunday evening s l i d e!

Have a wonderful week, everyone!
