Another portrait of my dear friend and mentor, Frannie. Lightness and darkness and introspection...

Photographed in her Manhattan apartment, June 2013.

Fiery fortysomething redhead Hanneke caught in introspection while sitting on the end of a jetty into the harbour in the Dutch town of Hoorn.

Immerse yourself in the deep waters of the SE, where the reflections mix between reality and dream; journey in silence...dance between memories, desires and fantasies, between fears hidden in the darkness and hopes that give light.

Discovering forgotten secrets, untold emotions in rapidly flowing thoughts; lantern lit in the darkness of the soul, faint light that guides the path towards authentic truths.

I'm very excited to let my JKPP/flickr friends in on the news; I've just confirmed a OneWomanShow of my mosaic portraits... in May!

Details coming soon.... :)

'Introspection'' is a series that portrays fears that i have that are holding me back, as an attempt to set myself free from them.

''Introspección'' es una serie que retrata los miedos que tengo y que me retienen y me impiden evolucionar, en un intento de liberarme de ellos.

New levels of introspection with a 10X magnifying mirror and the realization of its potential as a spy tool.

I had planned a quiet afternoon of photographing dahlias at a Long Island arboretum and invited my 8-year-old grandson to come along. Andrew was up for adventure until he got stung by a bee shortly after we arrived. Then it was, "I hate nature! Can we call an ambulance? Can you carry me? What if the bee's friends come after us because I killed their friend?!? What if the venom kills me??" I was sympathetic and reassuring but secretly amused by the high drama.

When I took out the mirror so he could check the two bites on the back of his leg, we could see the bee's stinger still in one. He wouldn't let me touch it, but after a phone consultation with his mother, he was able to remove the stinger himself by scraping it with my bank card. His mother praised him for being a brave boy, and then all was well. And there were chickens to feed at the dahlia garden!

Andrew spent the car ride back, taking photos of passing cars' license plates with my phone and said he might want to be a spy. I did manage to photograph the dahlias (and chickens), but this photo, for me, is most representative of the day. One photo a day. A photo walk through a Japanese garden on a rainy late November day in the Pacific Northwest. Japanese gardens are places for solitude, introspection, contemplation, and connection with nature. Key elements are water, stone, vegetation, and human-made objects. This walk has a very

calming quality to it. I think I could have this one just play in a loop all day.

Production technique is again simple; direct raw to image. No edits crops or adjustments. You see only what the camera captured.

Sound: Shakuhachi [The Japanese Flute] performance by Kohachiro Miyata, soft rain, and mountain brook (recorded by me)

Chill and enjoy.

Standing on Maungawhau looking down over my city shrouded in fog turning to gold in the light of the rising sun it's easy to slip away into quiet introspection.

A moment of introspection in between an Urbex Shoot...

I wanted to create something dark and moody as reflection of my feelings...but it wasnt easy, I really had to tap into my darkest side to create this one...because no matter how much I tried, the image would come out filled with light :) I am finally happy with how this looks, however in the whole process I did a lot of introspection...and I am sharing one of my favorite quotes about darkness cause it really resonated with how I truly feel...

"...Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we're liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

Oh my, I don't know what to say. I am proud because for once, my work seem to correspond to what I really want to do. For once... after all the frustration, the failures, the doubts, it looks like holding on and on and on has led me to today's gift. I am thankful and at peace tonight.
