I gather that the church dedicated to St Romald, in the village of Romaldkirk (formerly North Riding of Yorkshire, but now Co Durham), might well be the only such church dedicated to this obscure saint.
Historic England record that the church was at one time listed as ‘Church of St Romald I the Hermit’. Other thoughts regarding the name have intimated that it might be derived from ‘St Rumwold’, a little-known Saxon saint, who strangely is said to have preached the Gospel after his baptism as an infant!
It’s thought that the original church on this site was a Saxon building. The Saxon church was destroyed by 1086, probably by Malcolm Canmore. Malcolm was a Scottish King who made several raids into North of England in the 11th century.

Today, Saturday december 10th, the world became an intimate space. Walking in the dense fog, with the sun struggling to peep through, was magic.

Two Major Mitchell's cockatoo share an intimate moment. Like other cockatoos, Major Mitchell’s cockatoos are monogamous, and form life-long pair bonds.

Getting frame filling shots of birds on their nest sites is difficult, even with my big lens. The birds mate for life and their behaviour shows that loyalty. I dream of close shots with their mirrored head movements because I love their eyes and beak markings.
I'm not sure how I feel about this shot. I like it but I don't! If that makes sense!!
Up on the Watkin Path, Snowdonia on Sunday and the wider angle shots I took are a bit meh. The intimate ones are more appealing to the eye. However, I think it's the composition that bothers me. Not enough foreground. There was no way I could get the tripod any lower. Ah well, I'll let you guys decide ;)
There are moments when words are either redundant or inadequate and so we should let the facts speak for themselves.
You have been so many memorable things, dear Carrie.
You have been the paragon of freedom and the Princess of our intimate dreams but overall you have been:
Extraordinaire
You touched our lives in so many ways, so many times you have become part of them.
The Force will be with You, Carrie…always.
Ah, "M". A favourite model for a few years pre-covid. She was good friends with Chloe, another of my favourite models. M came to one of Chloe's sessions with me and was so taken by the process that she started modelling too. But now she's moved on to other things in life.
I'm pleased to announce that a selection of my bobcat images will soon be featured at the G2 Gallery in Venice, California. The show is titled "Urban Carnivores" and runs from August 7th through September 16th. There will be a reception on August 11th. Donations will support Laurel Klein Serieys' research on the effects of urban development on bobcats in Southern California. If you're in the area I encourage you to drop by, as many of the images are new and previously unpublished.
For more details check out the G2 Gallery website, where you can also listen to an interview with Laurel.
