When: 11 July 2009
Where: Earl´s Court Exhibition Centre
Description: The Youth Festival was the first event of its kind to be held in the borough, free of charge, open to everybody and designed to showcase the energy and talent of its young participants before the wider audiences attracted annually by the Earl’s Court Festival.
The event began with performances from several DJs and bands held on the main stage. There were also free interactive workshops in music, dance, acting, circus acrobatics and visual arts, with opportunities for youngsters to sample a variety of art forms in a relaxed atmosphere.
The highlight of the Festival was the Talent Competition, judged jointly by professionals and the audience, with cash prizes intended to encourage the winners to access further training in their chosen artistic field. Stalls with free food, music, art, crafts and information about local youth provision (recreational, as well as education and careers) was also available throughout the event.
There was a free raffle and giveaways from the X-Factor stars JLS.
