This is a maple syrup making demonstration at Old Sturbridge Village in Massachusetts, USA, showing how the early Americans (1700's-1800's) made maple syrup. Early European settlers in the New England area and Canada were taught to make maple syrup and sugar by the native tribes that lived here. In the early spring, when the trees begin to warm in the suns of longer days, the frozen sap within begins to flow. A hole was bored into sugar maple tree and a small wooden tube was inserted. A bucket or wooden pan was placed under the tube to catch the slowly - very slowly - dripping sap. This sap was collected and boiled for hours and hours over an open fire. Depending on the sugar concentration in the sap, which is very low, it can take 43 gallons of sap, more or less a bit, to make 1 gallon of maple syrup! Families generally made the syrup and maple sugar for home use because it was so labor intensive. The process of making maple syrup is called "sugaring off" and the places where they make it are called "sugarbushes", at least in rural Northern New York(where I grew up) and New England. While collection methods have improved over the years, it still takes LOTS of syrup and lots of healthy sugar maples to bring you real maple syrup - which is why it is so expensive, but well worth the cost! It is truly like liquid gold. Yum!
A creative and talented group of young dancers with whom I participated in a contact intensive hosted by EDAM in Vancouver, under the tutelage of Peter Bingham, Marc Boivin and Andrew Harwood. We had so much fun!
Jeremy Cohen and Nani Agbeli led workshops on the music of the Ewe people of Ghana in which students spent the day working intensively on traditional drumming or dancing. The two groups combined on stage at the end of the day to perform Gahu, a fun, funky social drum & dance style — one that Williston music teacher Ben Demerath studied in Mr. Agbeli's native village of Kopeyi.

Zubštejn is a gothic castle built on a rocky hill in the early 14th Century. It was a important strongpoint of the mighty Pernštejn family, intensively modernized and rebuilt, but the importance of old castles faded in the 16th Century. They were too isolated, uncomfortable and not representative enough in comparison with the great marble Pernštejn Castle and other city palaces. Zubštejn is counted as abandoned in 1596. In the early 20th Century illegal communists met in the castle, in WW2 the Czech resistance fighters. Today the castle is structurally secured and opened to public.
This place is beautiful and charming in every moment of the year, but this combination of mist and frost was the best I´ve seen there. I started in bad weather, and just after I walked into the surrounding forest I´ve met this heavy, fast moving mist which flew over the castle and covered everything with fine frost. It was simply magical.
