On Thursday, May 25, 2017, Ambassador Bernicat joined the graduation ceremony of a train-the-trainer course organized for local SWAT instructors, which was funded by the U.S. Anti-terrorism Assistance Program.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Chief of CTTCU DMP, RSO, Senior Police Officials, U.S. ATA Instructors, and ATA SWAT Graduates attended the graduation ceremony as well. U.S. Antiterrorism Assistance (ATA) Program funded a 7-week (April 9-May25, 2017) CRT/SWAT Mentorship training in the Public Order Management Office of DMP Dhaka. This was a train-the-trainer course where ATA trained nine local SWAT instructors who have conducted two refresher Crisis Response Team courses for 42 SWAT members.
This was taken on a T-37 cross country flight in Oklahoma City on the back porch of my grandparent's house. On the right is James Earl, my college roommate and the instructor who guided me through learning to fly the civilian way. On the left is Major Johnny Leonard, a much decorated B-52 pilot from Vietnam who unlearned me of my bad civilian habits and taught me "The Air Force Way."

If anyone ever asks you why you walk around with your camera, please remember this day and the joy I feel right now. I was driving down the road with my moon roof open and heard a screech, which seemed to be in earnest. I hit the brakes and turned off the road so I could get out and start walking back from where I came. At first I saw the "student" making all kinds of noise, but knew I needed to get back to the car and get the D7000. I swapped the 28mm-75mm for the 55mm-300mm and headed back up the road. Passersby didn't have a clue about what I was doing, other playing close to traffic. Once I approached the one I call student, the other made itself known and flew by. As it turns out, the one that allowed me to approach as closely as it did is a juvenile who must have had a less than sterling maiden flight and didn't want to go any more, and the one on the branch was most likely the Mom, telling it to get the lead out.......I caught a small bit of the tail, but I was playing in traffic!! I hope you enjoy these, as I can barely contain myself! - all are much better large!

Yesterday I had the honor of escorting some of our DLI students to perform with their instructor at the Korean Culture Day held at the John Steinbeck Library in Salinas, CA. Performances included 사물놀이 (quartet instrumental symbolizing wind, rain, thunder, & clouds), 부채춤 (fan dance), and 춘향전 (ancient love story novel). Distinguished visitors included the Salinas Mayor Donohue, the ROK Assistant Consul General from S.F., the Buddhist Monk from Sambosa Temple Carmel Valley, the President of the Korean American Association, and volunteer faculty members from DLI. Local Korean supermarkets and restaurants generously provided traditional Korean foods for the jam packed crowd of spectators.
