Inside a beyond massive closed factory that is likely going to be demolished. Several million square feet that was still powered, heated & patrolled by security. This place is filled with tracks, conveyors & some robotics.

Dinner was served here, the sisters were fantastic hosts, food was great and a truly wonderful experience.

Wernberg convent perched on a rocky outcrop overlooking a bend in the Drau River. The building run by the Sisters of the Precious Blood is actually in part a Renaissance castle dating back to the early 13th century. Today it houses a nunnery, education centre and guesthouse with its own farm and a well-stocked shop selling its produce. This was where we had dinner before going to Villach for the night.

"Quando scoppia una guerra, la gente dice: "Non durerà, è cosa troppo stupida". E non vi è dubbio che una guerra sia davvero troppo stupida, ma questo non le impedisce di durare."

Belgium is known around the world for chocolate, waffles and beers, but my country is full of delightful secrets, Cuberdon is one of them.

In Flemish it is known as a neus (nose) or neuzeke (little nose) for its likeness to a human nose. In French, cuberdons are also called chapeau-de-curé and chapeau-de-prêtre (priest's hat).

Cuberdons are made with gum arabic. They are raspberry-flavoured and purple, though more recently differently coloured and flavoured variants have been available as well.

They are traditionally about 2,5 cm wide and weigh approximately 10 to 18 grammes, although smaller version are also commercialised. The outside is relatively hard, whereas the inside is gooey, unctuous, pure sweet indulgence.

Cuberdons can only be preserved for about three weeks, after which period the inside begins to crystallise.

This limited preservability is the reason why cuberdons are not exported outside of Belgium.

There are two hypotheses about its origins:

Either a clergy member living in the country of Bruges created it - which would explain the term of "cleric's cap",[chapeau-de-prêtre ] another name for it.

Or the Ghent pharmacist De Vynck in 1873 discovered the recipe of the cuberdon by chance. In order to increase the shelf life of drugs at the time, many were packaged in the form of syrup.

When the pharmacist examined a failed preparation after a few days, he found that it had formed a crust, while the core was still liquid. From this discovery came the idea to use such a technique to manufacture candy.

Lead a sweet life!

The inside of the mosque is simply breath-taking. This immense space is decorated with more than 20,000 hand-painted Iznik ceramic tiles.

Akhenaten was a pharaoh of the Eighteenth dynasty. He is especially noted for abandoning the traditional Egyptian polytheism, and introducing monotheistic worship centered on the Egyptian creator god, Aten, represented by the sun. His Chief Royal Wife was Nefertiti and he is known to be the father of famous boy-pharaoh Tutankhamun.

While outside on our porch taking pictures I happened to catch a glimpse of my 13 year old daughter inside taking some pictures of flowers in a vase on our kitchen table. I thought the effects created by the setting sun were very intriguing.

I made this for my maternal grandmother's birthday last week. The charlotte is filled with strawberry bavarois cream, surrounded with boudoir biscuits, and added with more fresh strawberries both inside and on top.

I was inspired by fabulous Béatrice's creation (aka La tartine gourmande). Thank you greatly for the recipes!! :-)

Saterday, when we walked home from downtown, this cat walked with us more than a mile. We couldn't get rid of him. At home he stayed outside at the front door and in the end we admitted him to come inside.

Now we have to search for his owner. He isn't a hobo. He is adorable and cuddlesome.

Inside the Romanesque church of Notre-Dame de l'Assomption (Our Lady of the Assumption - referring to the Catholic idea of the assumption of the Virgin Mary, that is that she was taken to Heaven alive after her life here on Earth) in Colleville. The church was built in the 12th and 13th century and became a historical monument in 1840.

The church suffered heavy damages in the Normandy landings in 1944 when seven German soldiers sat there giving coordinates to the German batteries at the coast - the tower was just a pile of rubble after the war. The church was rebuilt 1946-1951, to look like it had done before the war.
