Working the broccoli patch

I found this damselfly stuck in the sundew on a log a couple of feet from shore. It was alive, so I tried to free it, reaching with a stick. He flew up in the air and disappeared...not sure where he landed. Didn't go according to plan.

On a windy day and in high grass (no support). How lucky can one be with a sharp shot like this one.

Insects don't take the weekend off :)

[explored]

on a gum leaf; not positive but I think it's Metriorrhynchus rhipidius (Lycidae)

Taken in Autreppes, France.

Another in a series of Ladybird macros

Taken with a Canon EF 70-300 USM zoom with extension tubes and flash. This has the advantage of giving a good amount of standoff from the subject which is less likely to be spooked. Lighting with flash allows a small aperture to be used.
