Through diverse media ranging from drawings to sculptures, installations and film, Rinus Van de Velde creates a mirror universe where elements from reality and imagination coalesce into a unique kind of visual storytelling.

Kin'unkaku (錦雲閣) is a pavilion built after the Meiji Restoration on the site of the demolished Iwakuni Jinya (陣屋 administrative headquarters).
The site for Jinya is now converted to the Kikkou Park (吉香公園).
Iwakuni had been part of the Mouri's Choushuu Han (長州藩 Choushuu domain) but had been ruled autonomously by the Kikkawa (吉川氏), a subordinate of the Mouri.
Iwakuni was planned as a castle town using the Nishikigawa as the natural moat of protection. Jinya was built at the foot of the hill, on which the castle was constructed. The water in the photo is an inner moat for the Jinya compound. Kintaikyou was built as the main entrance to the Samurai area on the narrow strip between the hill and the river.

These roses fill one corner of the garden. The buds start out as a deep orange, and go through intense yellow, all the way to pale white.
When backlit, they seem to glow from within.

The Lismore lighthouse is located on Eilean Musdile, a small islet in the Inner Hebrides roughly 0.5 km from the Isle of Lismore. It was built by Robert Stevenson in 1833 and was converted to fully automatic operation in June 1965.
This photo of the evening sun lighting up the white walls of the lighthouse was taken on a ferry from Mull to Oban.

Anemone coronaria is a species of flowering plant in the genus Anemone, native to the Mediterranean region.
This comp 'in camera'... just how I like it!
Each time I think... that's it, there's only so much you can do with flowers... and yet again and again, I'll see something new.
Being creative is not a choice... it is an urge in me.
