I can’t believe that I took this photo for 52Frames seven months ago! This year has been a blur.

Here’s the original text that went with this image:

Although I am not a Buddhist, Zen resonates with me. Since wabi-sabi is described as “the material representation of Zen Buddhism,” I loved thinking about and doing this assignment!

This is a dry oak leaf encased in ice. There is something so poetic about winter to me. We, and all living things, are most vulnerable in the winter. It’s a time of going inward. A time of contemplation. Sometimes, like for this leaf, it’s a time of death.

A lot of people complain about the colder months, but if you look closely (and are properly dressed for the cold), there’s beauty everywhere. As photographers, perhaps our greatest gift is to photograph things in a way that shows the true nature of something. It’s inner beauty. I hope that I’ve accomplished this here.

One is dense, the other soft

both ephemeral

Always alone, while strolling along these fractured shores.

Biding my time, ever soaring up high with shooting stars.

Cracking a smile, while singing quietly these unheard songs.

Drifting inward, and laughing nonstop to a strange inner space.

Continuing the "Nature on Ice" series. Getting back to some more experimental cosmic candy. I'm still trying to get some Winter ideas out of the bucket. Spring shall return shortly. Wishing my Flickr friends a wonderful weekend!

Penone (born in 1947) poses with his iconic self-portrait from 1970. He was 23 when he asked a local optician to create mirroring contact lenses. They are not translucent, so the artist was temporarily blinded when the picture was made.

We should realize that art is a process of inner vision. We make photos of the things we recognize. Onlookers recognize what they recognized before. Mirrors are magical gateways to a deeper understanding.

the beauty of nature…could only be appreciated…by the beauty of our inner nature…

The Covid-19 lockdown is still active, and while outside the spring is blooming, we have to find our own inner spring. Some micro water drops and a colorful backround could help.

Compositional layering ican be seen in the Gnessic Complex that forms most of the walls of the inner part of Shoshone Canyon west of Cody Wyoming. The metamorphic and Igneous rocks exposed here date to around 2.6 billion years ago. Geologist call that time period during the Precambrian the Archean Eon. These rocks represent a time when Wyoming was a separate microcontinent called the Wyoming Craton which existed 500 million years before the North American Continent formed. The layered gneissic complex in Shoshone Canyon consists of hornblende mica schist cut by sills of granodiorite and granite pegmatites.

Normally, I'd crop this slightly to balance it up, but I like to add a shot every now and then that I haven't touched.... and I thought that this could be one of them.

There are times when, even with a heavy heart, you have to do what brings you some inner harmony.

Up at the top of the city working on stuff alone. Just running in circles.
