Inns of Court, in London: group of four institutions of considerable antiquity that have historically been responsible for legal education. Their respective governing bodies, the benches, exercise the exclusive right of admitting persons to practice by a formal call to the bar. They consist of the Inner Temple and Middle Temple (both housed within the area known as The Temple), Lincoln’s Inn, and Gray’s Inn—all of which are located in the general vicinity of the Royal Courts of Justice, at the boundary between the City of London and Westminster.

Walk alone, anywhere under

the sky and experience the place.

Connected to the place that is around

and inside me.

And to reflect myself by joining

all that is me – inside and out.

To be able to carry with me

myself as I have experienced that

second, that place – and safeguard.

And every given moment since

I can reflect on who I was

And be myself again.

During our travels last year, I was able to briefly return to a place of some of my great childhood memories - Beskid Slaski Mountains in southern Poland. The mountains are not very high, almost rolling hills type of a landscape, but they are very picturesque and located in the range is the source of Poland's longest river Vistula. This is Biala Wiselka (White Vistula), one of the two streams that join together to form the main river.

Sandstone reflections of sun and sky, Lower Antilope Canyon, Page, Arizona, US, January 2012.

Lyrical abstract painted for the camera with watercolors on a liquid surface that disappeared a second later. My technique is related to the traditional Japanese suminagashi monoprint or floating ink technique, but I use a camera to capture the floating design I create instead of paper.

Is there a difference between happiness and inner peace? Yes. Happiness depends on conditions being perceived as positive; inner peace does not.

The Inner Ward. The castle dates from the 12th century and was expanded in the 13th Century. This was the part of the castle with the high status rooms occupied by the various owners.

Something just occurred to me. Starting last winter and continued into this one, I began to complain about the absence of light. Initially, I thought I was just whining and getting in touch with my inner woman :-) but I set some time aside for analysis and though not being supported by any weather stats (more like a testimonial) I have decided that our winters up here have changed in that actually we are experiencing less sunlight. I can’t believe the number of dull days that we are experiencing up here.

Along the same lines or similar at least, has anybody noticed that egg shells seem to be much thinner than when we were kids? There was no way that I could break an egg in my hand when I was a kid. Now, I am afraid to look at an egg too long for fear of doing severe damage to it. I suppose that’s great for the egg producers because they can now transport way more eggs for a given load (same weight) than before. But none of these really qualify for being contenders in egg fights. (You have an egg in one hand, pointy side facing out, and you try to smash your buddy’s egg). You do this with hard boiled eggs :-) If your buddy’s breaks, you get his. Great fun at Easter, especially for the kids.

So, back to the light or absence thereof. I really appreciate shots where I do find some decent light and especially backlit subjects. But that’s not the only reason we are featuring the squirrel. The squirrel is shown to desensitize one of you (you know who you are) to your abhorrence of them. Personally, I don’t understand this squirrel phobia, I am sure there is a scientific name for this, I consider them to be the cutest little rodents. We will see if my quest will be successful.

Alright, let’s close this with a way to capture sunlight any time of the day with …

Slot canyons in the Southwest hold so many surprises. Here's a shot from a remote canyon in Northern Arizona. A piece of wood had gotten wedged hard into the ground by a flood. I really liked the way the light was coming in and hitting the stick. You can see a small waterfall coming down the chamber in the background. We rappelled right through that little hole where the waterfall comes through.

When I was looking at this image, I kept thinking that in the light I had, the monument appeared to glow. I chose this look because it worked with the appearance that the monument had its own inner light.
