The Chessington south branch runs from Motspur Park to Chessington and was the last suburban branch opened by the Southern Railway, in 1938. All the stations, including Malden Manor pictured here, were built in concrete in an Art Deco style.
An aggregates terminal adjacent to Tolworth station receives sea-dredged aggregates from Cliffe on the Isle of Grain. The branch is now the last London suburban branch that is shared by passenger and freight trains.
Here 66186 heads the twice weekly empties from Tolworth returning to Cliffe.

The new northbound platform for Southeastern trains towards Charing Cross and Cannon Street is under construction at Abbey Wood
Take a look at the elevated guideway on North Road. On the left side of the guideway, crews have installed the mounting brackets for the power rail. The rails that the SkyTrain cars run on have also been installed. In between the running rails is the linear induction motor rail (the grey component between the rails). It is an aluminum-capped metal structure that interacts with the linear induction motors creating a magnetic force that “pulls” the train along the track.
