Located in quiet Peel Street, built opposite the Melbourne city side of Windsor station stands the former Windsor Post and Telegraph Offices.

Built between 1907 and 1908, the Windsor Post and Telegraph Offices were designed by prominent Melbourne architect and former Commonwealth Works Director for Victoria Horrace John MacKennal (18?? - 1949). It is of an Arts and Crafts federation freestyle design with American Romanesque influences. Detailed lead light windows, stone, red brick and a pitched slate roof combine with classical and Art Noveau detail.

Horace John Mackennal joined the Commonwealth Government service in 1901, and was Commonwealth Works Director for Victoria from 1912 until his retirement in 1939.

Disrupting Political Campaigns: Shifting Influence from the Money to the Many

8:00 pm - 9:00 pm MDT on Tuesday, June 30, 2015

Modern campaigns have become fund-raising arms races, distorting whom our elected officials feel accountable to and compromising a fundamental tenet of democracy — electoral representation. Comprehensive legislative or judicial solutions to this problem are difficult to imagine in today’s environment. But in this age of disruption, is it conceivable that innovations could emerge in campaign practice that help candidates win while increasing their reliance on everyday constituents as opposed to well-heeled donors? As a new generation of Americans comes of age and the Internet becomes the dominant political medium, can people power compete with financial power? With campaigns becoming more sophisticated in how they use new technologies, there are reasons to be hopeful and reasons to be fearful. (Ticketed Event)

Influencer Marketing id the form of marketing, in which we can target businesses individually, not whole at the same time.

La Boca is a district, or barrio one of 48 barrios of the Argentine capital Buenos Aires.

La Boca is located in the city's south-east near its old port. It has been in the past the first place of landing for the immigrants coming from Europe, mostly Italians from Genoa. It retains a strong European flavor; many of the residents are of mixed European descent. Mainly Italian, Spanish, German, French, Arab and Basque.

North Sumatra: old Dutch colonial buildings rubbing shoulders with Moghul architecture; decrepit vehicles crowding the dirty, littered streets; political posters and billboards competing for attention; heat, dust and smells - and smiling faces.

Dutch colonialists were significant in developing the Medan area from the 1860s, and the buildings in Medan reflect this.

Ahwahnee Hotel on the valley floor from about 7000 feet (2134 meters) up on Glacier Point.

The Ahwahnee Hotel is located in Yosemite National Park. It is a National Historical Landmark and one of the most distinctive resort hotels in North America.

Completed in 1927, The Ahwahnee features a blend of design influences including Art Deco, Native American, Middle Eastern and the Arts & Crafts Movement. These elements can be seen in every aspect of the hotel including stenciling, woodwork, lighting fixtures and china patterns.

Some of the most distinctive features of The Ahwahnee are its public spaces featuring giant stone fireplaces, massive beams, tapestries and stained glass.

Bridgwater is a historic market town with a population of about 41.000

Bridgwater is mentioned both in the Domesday Book and in the earlier Anglo-Saxon Chronicle dating from around 800. William Briwere was granted the lordship of the Manor of Bridgwater by King John in 1201 and founded Bridgwater Friary. Through Briwere's influence, King John granted three charters: for the construction of Bridgwater Castle, for the creation of a borough, and for a market.

There is evidence of a church at the time of the Norman Conquest. The first mention of a church on the present site dates from 1107, when the church revenues were awarded to the Priory of Bath.

Rebuilding of the church in the early Gothic style began in 1209. The architect was William Briwere. In the early 14th century the church was extended to the west, side aisles were added to the nave and a west tower was completed. The tower must have been completed by 1318. In 1367 construction of a tower began. The construction of the tower required the addition of massive corner piers to the tower to support it.

The chancel was rebuilt in the late 14th century and in the first half of the 15th century. This was followed by the remodelling of the nave from 1420 to 1430, during which some of the early Gothic work from the previous nave was integrated. The Mary Chapel was rebuilt from 1447 to 1448.

After seeing the the Museum of Fine Arts' Edward Hopper exhibit last week, I started paying attention to the expressiveness of the brick facades of old office buildings downtown (as Hopper did in Early Sunday Morning, for example).

And in those facades I looked for windows through which other windows could be seen, making those facades seem transparent (as Hopper did in Office in a Small City, for example).

André Lhuillier, CSS PhD student. André’s talk entitled “Why Little Samson Didn’t Defeat The Hedgehog: A Story Of Social Influence And The Relevance Of Distribution For Successful Information Goods"

Abstract: In 1992 during one of the fiercest battles of the so called ‘console wars’, a modest game was released in the mist of the industry frenzy. Although ‘Little Samson’ is recognized by those who know it as a great game, it remains unknown for most of the consumers today. On the other side of the battlefield, Sega’s thriving Hedgehog was convincing everyone that they have seized their main competitor ‘Mario Kart’. Despite this momentary victory in consumer’s memory and affection, the real winner was not in the center of the industry’s attention. Having less media presence, the sequel of Super Mario Land for the Game Boy was the most purchased game with almost 200% units of what ‘Sonic 2’ sold. This kind of unpredictable and divergent behavior is a unique characteristic of information goods markets. In this presentation I survey the last 30 years of the video game sector and show its particular composition and evolution. Following De Vany’s approach to Hollywood movie industry I dwell into an analysis of this industry with special emphasis in consumer behavior. Re-visiting De Vany’s proposal I make a simple ABM approach to model and show how placement or distribution properties may induce long tail distributions. Following the relevance of information diffusion and the development of hype in this industry another model is presented. In this case the relevance of a consumer social system and its dynamics. After an analysis of the industry history, consumer’s social influence, sales and distribution/access is reviewed; I present several findings and propose a model to understand them. A final discussion will be opened with the presentation of data on Valve Company digital platform Steam.
