Peru 2005 - Inca Trail

Looking back at the cloud covered Mount Veronica (18,641ft, 5,682m) - I kept hoping the clouds would clear and I would get that perfect shot but this was about the best I could do. It really was beautiful, though - and at least it wasn't raining anymore!

Getting closer to the top but still a long way to go.

The Inca Town of Llactapata - seen from the Inca trail above. This town was protected by the watchtower in the previous picture. It sits at the intersection of two river valleys.

Resting at the foot of the Intipata complex in much-needed shade. It is around midday on this photo and the temperature is around 28C. Just seven hours earlier we woke up to subzero temperatures.

I think this was the only railing we saw on the entire trail - and this part was flat!

The first leg rises through jungle and past the last town on the trail. This part seemed hard but we hadn't hit the Inca steps yet. We had no idea.
