Day 1 of the Inca Trail, entering the National Park and walking to Huayllabama, where we camped for the first night.
After 26 miles through beautiful mountain scenery, lush cloud-forest, subtropical jungle and, of course, a stunning mix of Inca paving stones, ruins and tunnels, we finally made it to Machu Picchu
The night before, some of us partook of the camp's rustic sauna. To cool off afterward, we took a dip in the Urubamba river next to the camp. Miguel later informed me that no one swims in that part of the river because of the dangerous rapids. (Crazy Americans...)
Second day of the trail was hell. That's the reason why I don't have that many photos of it. I was just trying to survive... :D But the third day was different. This was just the start. Half an hour after leaving the camp we got to this Inca control point in the middle of the mountains. The beauty of the landscape was amazing! Lot's of water falls (like the one on the right), Inca sites and breathtaking landscapes. Stay tuned for the next shots. :D
