Looking back at the cloud covered Mount Veronica (18,641ft, 5,682m) - I kept hoping the clouds would clear and I would get that perfect shot but this was about the best I could do. It really was beautiful, though - and at least it wasn't raining anymore!

Here the trail starts to slowly ascend - I thought this part was hard... until Day 2.

Inca Trail Day 1

We spent quite a while in the ruins - Guido had a story to tell.

Our first lunch introduced us to the shocking level of catering we'd be enduring throughout the trek - namely a three course sit down lunch in a tent with tables, chairs and even napkins. Oh, the hardship.

The trek started off with a easy hike into the mountains.

Resting at the foot of the Intipata complex in much-needed shade. It is around midday on this photo and the temperature is around 28C. Just seven hours earlier we woke up to subzero temperatures.
