This mountain medow is located about 3 quaters of the way up to the highest point on the Inca trail. If you look carefully you can see Alpaccas grazing.
Peruvian woman hearding sheep with the help of her dog. I wish I had framed this a little better - it would have been a great shot had the fence not been in the way! This was taken in a little hut we stopped in to rest after the first challenging climb of the hike.
We stayed overnight in this village at the end of day 1 of the hike. There is some farming going on, although I have a feeling this particular village makes as much money from selling beer and snacks to the tourists who stop here at the camp site. And no, I didn't get a beer here....although I was tempted....
After a sharp descent back down to river level, the next part of the trail rises gradually through a jungle - big difference from the desert it started out in!
