We only have two or three snowdrops in the front garden, but I managed to find a clump of tight buds at the end of the back garden. Picked three, and kept them indoors for a day os so to encourage a little opening, then gradually frozen in layers of water. The buds were surprisingly uncooperative, and kept floating, which ruined the effect I wanted. Finally achieved an encased bud withour it escaping onto a closer plane of focus.
The ice was thicker underneath, so I played around with back-lighting from a torch. I enjoyed the way the tiny bubbles followed the line of the bud, giving it an almost predatory Triffid-like look?

Resistor in Pyrex dish containing approximately 3/8ths inch of water and placed in freezer.
Speedlight with snoot focused on resistor from right. Speedlight with blue gel, handheld, directed on ice surface from above at an acute angle.
1.6 inches in greatest dimension. The body of the resistor is 0.25 inches long.

A key ring with contact information printed on the back. This took two freezing cycles and then some luck to get part of the medalion to stick out.
The image is about 2.5 cm (1 inches) on the long edge.

The measurements in this photo are 7.4 cm wide by 6 cm high.
For the photo I have frozen ice in small and different plastic and glass containers lined with plastic wrap, previously smeared with a little oil. In these small containers I have poured to freeze, a mixture of water with sugar, lemon juice and measured on transparent gelatin powder, to eliminate as much as possible the concentration of bubbles and that the doll could be seen. And this has been the result, after setting the whole scene.

Todos sabemos lo que Scrat, siente por su bellota. En esta toma, la pobre ardilla, ha quedado petrificadamente congelada, al caer desde un risco arrastrada por las aguas, a un iceberg. Tendremos que esperar al deshielo para averiguar, si consigue salvaguardar su bellota (no se ha dado cuenta que realmente "ha cazado" una almendra). Mientras tanto, yo he ido cincelando los cubos de hielo, para que escape lo mas rápido que pueda.... continuará....
We all know how Scrat feels about his acorn. In this shot, the poor squirrel, has been frozen petrified, falling from a cliff dragged by the waters, to an iceberg. We will have to wait for the thaw to find out, if he manages to safeguard the acorn from him (he has not realized that he really "hunted" an almond). Meanwhile, I have been chiselling the ice cubes, so that it escapes as quickly as possible ... it will continue ...
Nous savons tous ce que Scrat pense de son gland. Dans ce cliché, le pauvre écureuil, a été gelé pétrifié, tombant d'une falaise traînée par les eaux, à un iceberg. Il faudra attendre le dégel pour savoir s'il parvient à sauvegarder son gland (il ne s'est pas rendu compte qu'il a effectivement "chassé" une amande). Pendant ce temps, j'ai ciselé les glaçons, pour qu'ils s'échappent le plus vite possible ... ça va continuer ...
Sappiamo tutti cosa pensa Scrat della sua ghianda. In questa inquadratura, il povero scoiattolo, è stato congelato pietrificato, precipitando da un dirupo trascinato dalle acque, su un iceberg. Dovremo aspettare il disgelo per scoprire, se riuscirà a salvaguardare la sua ghianda (non si è accorto di aver effettivamente "cacciato" una mandorla). Nel frattempo ho scalpellato i cubetti di ghiaccio, in modo che scappi il più velocemente possibile ... continuerà ...

For the Macro Monday challenge "in ice" (February 15th 2021)
It was great fun playing with ice-cubes, though cold, of course! I decided to use an ice-cube tray, as it would make sure my macro was really small (roughly 2x3cm) So I filled the tray with tiny objects and scraps of vegetation from the garden. That's where I found this tiny feather too. It looked pretty ordinary when I popped the frozen cube out of the tray, but under the macro lens it looked way more interesting, and strangely like a fish! Mike is much better than me at seeing faces in images (pareidolia) and he tells me there is a face in there too! Hence the title!

For this weeks (15-Feb-2021) Macro Mondays 'In ice' theme, I froze a few things in an ice tray, took a few photos and ended up loving the contrast between these two frozen segments next to each other.
Photo is just over 3cm across.

It's Valentine Day and tomorrow's Macro Mondays theme is "In Ice". The small roses from my wife's beading stash are still on my workspace from the Looking Close ... on Fridays "Rose" theme so why not some red roses frozen In Ice?
Again, the Roses are some 11 - 12 mm in width so I decided to mount the 100mm Macro lens on extension tubes to capture images as the ice melted. These were captured as the edges of the petals became free of the ice cube.
I think some people are far too precious with their photographic equipment. To me it's just a tool and it goes where I go, rain or shine....or ice. OK, I wouldn't say I abuse it, while some may say I do, but no cameras were hurt in the making of this photo. Which I'm doing only for the people at the Macro Mondays group who, this week, have demanded a photo of an object "in ice". This shot is just a trial sample, but I shall refine it to the Macro Mondays exacting standards. I must admit I am abandoning my previous effort of a foxglove flower in ice, for fear of triggering the group police to disqualify my shot on the basis that the frozen bit in the middle has become the subject with its bubbles, spikes and cracks and that is definitely verboten by the rules.
So here is my Olympus OM-1 dunked in a bucket of water and put in our freezer overnight. And only about 34mm across.
I took the ice block out of the freezer and its container - and then forgot all about it. Little Bear still held firmly by ice though.
The first Macro Monday challenge I've had the chance to do for weeks!
Since I missed most chances to photograph our recent snow and ice, this was some compensation and I learnt how to make distilled water for clearer ice too. Bonus!
The frame is exactly 3 inches across.
i have been quite enjoying the MacroMonday challenge this week - making ice cubes with things inside them has been full of small surprises especially the bubbles and opaque crystals that form patterns in the ice.
Lots of rejected ice cubes are now melting alongside the few that i liked. Several didn't even get a camera pointed at them. But now I cant work out what is best from the 3 that have made my short list for posting to the MacroMonday group.

This little Stegosaurus has wandered too far north and into an ice field -- luckily, moss frozen in the ice provides at least a little sustenance.
Landscape is moss and wood in ice, with additional miniature ice cubes, on white paper. Toy Stego is about 1.25" across, frame is 3" across.

The subject was illuminated by two nikon SB900's and the blue LED of a Coast TZ10 Quad Color flashlight. The SB900's were placed 90° CL and CR, two-feet above and two-feet away from the subject, pointing down at 45°. The speedlights were fired in Manual mode @ 1⁄8 power through two Neewer 24" x 24" soft boxes. The TX10 was placed at 11 o'clock and exposed for four seconds.
The SB900's were triggered by three PocketWizard Plus X's.

I first attempted this particular theme back in Feb 21 after a suggestion from Janet Benoy for a members choice - some interesting results thats for sure and patience was certainly needed
This is a very small feather photographed at 1:1 macro. The area in the photo is 1.5 inches (36 mm) across.

This is a piece of the mortise lock which chose to break while I was inside the bathroom trying to fix it. I was stuck in there for 40 minutes before I managed to pry the door open. Still trying to search for a replacement lock and keeping the tools in the bathroom just in case.
