Detail of native fern leaves in ice using distilled water for clean clear water. Need to wait for the outer layer of ice to melt a bit then the leaves became more apparent for the photograph.

Its actually a kumquat, but, looks like an egg :)

Almost five years on from their first venture out of the bits and pieces box, the mini polar bears had to play their part in the In Ice theme, making their fourth appearance in Macro Mondays.

I missed macro monday group's "in ice" challenge, but I really liked the idea. So I thought I'd give it a chance. It worked better than I've imagined.

There's this new thing: longevity. And ice bathing is one of the hottest trends in that respect. It is supposed to boost our resilience, strength, clarity of mind, and more. Ice bathing does it all. Or does it really? I'm not sure, because I've never tried it. But this little guy has, a few times since last night, and look how happy it has made him. Maybe, just maybe, he has taken things a little too far, but he keeps assuring me that he feels gorgeous. "Put me back into the freezer, it's much too warm in your place!" So I did.

Well, there are century-old traditions like the Finnish sauna or other bathing traditions that combine hot and cold treatments, so there probably is something to ice bathing. Maybe I will dig deeper into the issue once Mr. Bones is defrosted so he can tell me all about it. Maybe I will also defrost him in warm water to give him the full experience, because before I put him in the ice bath and froze him, he never complained about it "being too warm" in my place. We'll see.

I seriously had no idea what to put into water to freeze. Actually, I could have put anything into the ice cube mould, and then simply taken a decent photo of it, but, as usual, this freedom of choice blocked me out. Until I found Mr. Bones while searching for the skull mould I had already used for another ice theme. The ice cube mould was just a little too small for this mini Lego figure, so I put him in an egg holder that also made a nice round ice cube shape.

I did focus stacking (in camera, 15 images, combined in Helicon Focus, method A, R8, S4). For the green light, I placed the green bottle in front of one of the LED lamps and put a silvery "reflector" (cardboard) on the opposite side of that lamp. To make the ice glow, I used two LED flashlights, set on spot, one placed behind the ice cube, and the other placed in front of it. The fourth light source was my natural light photo lamp from above.

HMM, Everyone!

Ever watch paint dry? Well, watching this cube of ice melt and seeing the release of the hearts was about as thrilling! Had way too many attempts for this theme!

Happy MM everyone!

Blueberries in an ice cube... my entry for Macro Mondays - In Ice...

Glass blobs and water at 0° F for 75 minutes.

Serves four.

Image is one inch wide.

Miniature flowers frozen in an ice cube.

Three of the many toys we collected to amuse the grandsons and now keep on hand for the occasional youngster that may accompany visitors. The green T-Rex is a Toy Story (Disney) figure and the other two are Halloween toys. A skeleton critter and a zombie finger puppet. The zombie reminded me of Ötzi the 5,300 year old frozen murder victim found in the Ötztal Alps in 1991. I didn't do any arranging to the composition. The toys are so buoyant that I didn't think they would stay in any one place as the water got cold and froze. So I snapped the lid shut I decided to just make do with whatever composition I discovered when I popped the lid off the next day. I used my 75mm Macro Mondays template to frame the image so this is of an area less than 75mm square. HMM and thanks for any views, faves and comments.

For #MacroMondays and this week's theme #Cold

Happy Macro Monday!

Thanks for all your faves and comments everyone!

I really appreciate them!

For the Macro Monday theme of Frozen in Ice, one of my Luton Town Football Club cufflinks.

I first saw Luton play many years ago as a child, and have supported them ever since, through thick and thin although it often feel more like the former! Established in 1885, their shield includes a straw boater, representing part of the town's heritage, which included hat industries.

For MACRO MONDAYS, this week’s theme: "In Ice".

HMM!

♥ Thank you very much for your visits, faves, and kind comments ♥

The 2/15/21 Macro Mondays theme is In Ice.

Now for my 2nd imagery for the Macro task for "In Ice" I created a lit fairy light frozen in ice, created from a pastry cutter, representing a flower, and through this evoking Winter and the Pandemic, and all of us waiting for the thaw of Spring to arrive, literally and metaphorically.

-[ Redux 2025 • In Ice (6/16/2025) ]-

Confession time: At times, I can be a world-class procrastinator. I had to pass up on the In Ice theme due to its lead time after checking the theme out too late and with no idea in mind. With plenty of time (and an administrative green light) now on my side, I finally got the opportunity to use the theme, this time to have some icy pun with a Scrabble tile.

The letter T is one of ten one-point letters in a standard English-language Scrabble set. The look of the lower corners of the tile are an artifact of ice bubbles and the strobe; freezing the plastic tile did no harm. I used a yogurt cup, with a base diameter of about 2½" (63.5mm) to form the ice puck containing the game piece.

#19 - 100 x challenge

I took this one while I was playing with ice for the MM theme a few weeks ago but didn't use it as I was a bit doubtful about the limited focus. I used the Lensbaby Pro with Sweet 35 optic and macro converters. Had a little faff with it today and here it is.

Hoping you are all having a wonderful weekend

Macro Mondays: In Ice

Pixie would like to thank the MM moderators and the people who suggested this theme, which provided him with a weekend full of entertainment, puzzlement and reflexion over this strange, cold, hard, wet thing.
