Its eyes, still open, were rimmed with frost but held a strange glint, like memory. Not death. Not quite.
Its body was curved in motion, jaws wide opened, as if it had been chasing something-something just beyond reach.
Waiting for the sea to return. For the ice to melt. For something ancient to awaken once more.
No one knew when it would thaw. Only that when it did, the ocean would remember. And so would the shark.

Macro Mondays: "In Ice"
Just a toy for the theme. Had fun with this little plastic shark and taking a photo for the upcoming theme on Monday. Photo is less than 3" including negative space.
On/Off - Thank you very much for your visit and for taking the time to comment! Much appreciated!

Sometimes things speak to me. Or I want things to talk to me. I do that too. Talk to them. Sometimes.

My idea was to show the contrast between ice and fire. So I looked for something flammable and found these matches to freeze properly. In the hope that they would torch properly too. Yesterday I got the taste for it when I photographed the "heart in the fire" ;-) These five also resisted a lot and didn't want to ignite for me at all – but I don't like to give up :-))) Now I have a thick blister on my thumb from the lighter. Then I let a small birthday candle help me (after politely asking her). The ice melt could begin ...

The subject is a very small flower, measuring a full 1/2 inch in height that I found from a previous shoot. I put it in a little rectangular Pyrex dish, added water and froze it for this week's Macro Mondays theme - In Ice. A flower ice wabi-sabi of sorts. To make the shot, I released the ice, added some clamps and stood it up against a black blanket used as a back drop. Lighting was with three studio lights, two in the front at each side of the camera and one in the back over subject. The final image was made from a single digital negative or NEF file and processed in Photoshop to add structure and bring up the colors. Best viewed large, yeah, like I need to tell you that. :)

In the criminal justice system, sexually based offenses are considered especially heinous.
In New York City, the dedicated detectives who investigate these vicious felonies are members of an elite squad known as the Special Victims Unit. These are their stories. Dun-Dun!
these raspberries were frozen in an ice cube and photographed floating in a dish with shallow water.
posting this video just because...

For Macro Monday this week, 'In Ice'. A roll of Ilford XP2, in a block of ice, lit with speedlite and a blue gel, whilst still in the freezer, just near the lid. I didn't get fully inside the freezer... that would be silly.
The scene is around 2 inches across. It wasn't quite as easy as I thought, I hadn't realised how buoyant a 35mm cassette is. I decided the problem was the water wasn't getting inside enabling it to sink. So I made a hole and it still popped up like a cork. Then I realised having processed these things lots of times, the central plastic spool, is hollow in the middle, but capped at the ends. I took a drill again and went in through the spool from top and bottom. It sort of worked and it sank enough to only leave a little bit of the metal protruding on one side. Obviously, all this is a perfectly normal thing to be doing. Where will MM take us next?

Macro Mondays 'in ice' theme.
It was tricky this week, I couldn't get any distilled water so had to make do with boiled water - I thought it would be better than tap water but it still went cloudy when it froze. Most of my objects were totally obscured by the ice but luckily the watch had a little less ice over the face and leaving it for a few minutes for the ice to begin to melt a little allowed enough to the face to show through. Of course then it started to slide around as I tried to take the shots! 😊
The image measures 3.5cm in width
Definitely Dreaming 6/52 'waiting' theme. (I waited for the ice to freeze, then waited for it to melt a little so the watch face was more visible.)

These are ground orchids. Used flashlight for backlighting and colored tissue paper at the back to enhance the colors. They were deep purple when I froze them.

At the end of the Cretaceous Period, 66 million years ago, the impact of a massive asteroid with the Earth resulted in billions of tons of dust and particles being ejected into the atmosphere. This lead to a serious decline in photosynthesis and a drastic decrease in temperature due to the blockage of the sun's radiation. It has been suggested that this could have caused an impact winter that froze large areas of the Earth. It is now generally accepted that the global catastrophe due to the impact of the asteroid lead to the mass extinction of 75% of the Earth's species, including all the non-avian dinosaurs.
