Dreaming of the tropics in this very cold weather - calling for a foot of snow tonight. My vision of a palm tree in clear blue water.
What a nice topic for the week? Science and photography... two of my favorite things. :)
For the subject, I searched on directional freezing mentioned in the discussion to produce the clear ice. This was my third attempt as the previous two did not go well (good bye exploded cherry). Hahaha.
I built a DIY container with cut plastic bottle wrapped with aluminum foil to allow only one side to freeze. I used barbecue sticks and nylon string to hold the strawberry under water because it floats all over. The small piece left in the photo was supposed to be at the back part but the strawberry spun around while floating. Oh well.... :)
The explosion looking effect and the red streaks going upwards was not an intentional effect. I think the strawberry got squeezed while freezing and there are air inside being pushed outwards. I used a yellow background to emphasize this.
For the lighting I used a strobe from the front which actually reflected on the ice. I was chasing against the melting subject so did not have time to find the right angle to take away the reflection. Oh well again... :) hahaha.
I really enjoyed this weeks topic. I hope you guys like the pic as well. Thanks in advance for comments and faves. HMM!!!
2" long Pine Cone encased in solid ice. The cone was placed in water and left outdoors over night. The temperature was well below freezing and produced a good ball of ice.
'In Ice' for Macro Mondays.
Thank you to all who view, fave or comment on my photo.
Happy MM
No, it's not ticking. Watch has been inoperative for years. I had it sitting in a drawer with two other watches that didn't work. I managed to get the other two working and this one refused to respond so it got the job of being frozen in a block of ice. Thank all that stop to look, like and comment. HMM!

The theme for this week's Macro Mondays challenge was "Frozen in Ice" so I froze a variety of small household objects and photographed them on flowery oilcloth. Shot with FujiFilm 50m prime. Enjoyed how the colors of the oilcloth eeped into the ice.

Tealight in ice. Only the wick was left free so that you can light the tealight. But the ice melts too fast to take enough photos and play with lighting.
This week's task in Macro photography is to produce an image in less than 3" called "In Ice" ... with the first image I created I followed on from the Lockdown Song and Valentine's Day. I twisted this somewhat and instead of creating an image of all "love and roses" I sought this to be an unrequited love from her OR him (it's immaterial) and the song to cover this would be "You're as Cold as Ice" ... I hope you like it?
Today's MacroMondays theme is In Ice and I am not sure this will qualify for the challenge or not. Certainly it is incased in ice but I didn't do it myself. I had a lot of help from Mother Nature who gave us this beautiful ice storm on Saturday. All I did was snip off the end of one of my evergreen bushes. But if it doesn't, I still thought it was beautiful in it's little icy world. Today is a huge, big day for me as I am off early this morning to get a new body part (hip). The good news about that is after recovery I may just be able to keep up with the wild woman Anita. Bad news is recovery takes some time (weeks, months) and I may have to dig into the archives for a bit or there could be days of missing photos. I don't know. If I don't get to looking at all your lovely photos, I will eventually catch back up! Anita is going to attempt to be my aid during this coming week (I should be back home tomorrow believe it or not). Please pray for her so that I don't make her crazy nuts! LOL
Everything's frozen here, including the bubbles at the top. I did this in two steps. First, I filled a small container halfway with water and placed it uncovered in the freezer. After it had frozen, I placed the two shells on top of the ice. Next, I filled the rest of the container with water and froze it. Result is a floating effect of the shells, as they are not buoyant.

Taken for the Macro Mondays theme of in ice. A tealight candle frozen into ice and then eventually lit to just melt the ice around candle - HMM!
Today, getting things ready to prepare for dinner, I found a leftover frozen object for last week 's MM theme 'In Ice' in the freezer. And as this one, a necklace, different from the other objects I put in the freezer for this purpose, had some clear ice around part of the object, I started a new series of fotos, with the afternoon sun giving some nice light.
This one is one of my favorites. 💙
let's go on a winter walk around my village on valentine's day ...
