I discovered some interesting information about explore, something I'm never privileged to be part of since April 2013. If you watermark (sign) your photos or place a boarder around them your chances of explore are slim to none, if your photo gets selected on a weekend it will be plucked out by Monday if it has either one. Who knew? The group "In explore" is helping people like myself get reinstated. Here is the link if any of you are experiencing the same thing. Join the group to comment.

I was in the field filming muskoxen in late April, in the Canadian arctic about 20 miles from my home, and I took a few pictures. This large herd was moving to the higher ground for the night. They seem to do that regularly, likely to have a vantage view while resting and see any predator from a distance. The higher ground also has less snow and, while the vegetation is sparse, it is easier to access under the thin snow cover. I boosted the sky a little and added some contrast to give the scene a more dramatic mood.

Today I drove for an hour and a half in torrential rain to Epsom and a few hours later I drove home for an hour and a half in torrential rain. Then, as I drove along the road towards the marina the sun burst through the clouds in time for a brief sunset. And I had time to pull into the car park and capture it.

In a garden where sunlight dances bright,
Stands a hollyhock, in golden light.
With petals soft as morning's gleam,
A yellow hollyhock, nature's dream.
Tall and graceful, reaching high,
Kissing the blue of summer sky.
Whispers of the breeze it hears,
Through seasons' laugh and sometimes tears.
Golden petals, layered and fair,
A sunlit crown, beyond compare.
Among the green, it proudly stands,
A beacon bright in fertile lands.
Pollinators come, bees and butterflies,
Drawn to its charm, under azure skies.
Each bloom a testament, bold and true,
Of nature’s palette, yellow and blue.
In quiet moments, when day is done,
It basks in the glow of the setting sun.
A yellow hollyhock, so pure, so bright,
A symbol of joy, in the soft twilight.
The veins on the back of this large leaf seemed to mimic the shape of a tree with its bare branches.

I only found a couple of these lovely butterflies on my visit but this one shows the hair streak marking better than my last shot. I'm always flattered when one of my shots features in Explore. Thank you for looking, for your kind comments and faves, all much appreciated.

Apologies for previous wrong name of the bonsai added to the title (hazelnut bonsai). The bonsai tree aside the Japanese miniature statue is in fact a beautiful Portuguese Laurel (bot. Prunus Lusitanica "Angustifolia") displayed in my garden with a large bonsai collection. I am the admirer in my Family but not the expert who, instead, corrected my description ;-)

Ash trees make seeds called samaras or helicopters, whirlygigs, or whatever you like to call the winged seeds. When conditions are just right, certain trees will produce an exceptionally large number of seeds.

A detail shot of the trunk of a Jaguar XK 150 a Le Mars winner in 1953, 55, 56, and 57. Certainly a winner in my book. As seen at the KC Auto museum Car Show held in Olathe Kansas.
