Crasy Tuesday theme: box, boxes

17 July, 2021: Brösarp, Sweden. Stefan Blomberg Photography – www.stefanblombergphotography.com

Today I drove for an hour and a half in torrential rain to Epsom and a few hours later I drove home for an hour and a half in torrential rain. Then, as I drove along the road towards the marina the sun burst through the clouds in time for a brief sunset. And I had time to pull into the car park and capture it.

"The greatest investment and greatest fair deal and enterprise is family, cozy homes. A cozy home is based on cozy people. Cozy people are not brought and imported, they are made from the time of birth to the time of infinity." ~ Harbhajan Singh Yogi

The veins on the back of this large leaf seemed to mimic the shape of a tree with its bare branches.

I only found a couple of these lovely butterflies on my visit but this one shows the hair streak marking better than my last shot. I'm always flattered when one of my shots features in Explore. Thank you for looking, for your kind comments and faves, all much appreciated.

Shot with Pentax SMC 50mm ƒ1.4 lens on Rollei Retro 400s film pushed to 1600 ASA.

Developed in XTOL 1+1 20°C for 20min with little agitation.

Ash trees make seeds called samaras or helicopters, whirlygigs, or whatever you like to call the winged seeds. When conditions are just right, certain trees will produce an exceptionally large number of seeds.

Seen during a woodland walk recently.

Big Sable Point Light was constructed in 1867 and was lit continuously until it was retired in 1971.

The end of the fall colours on the tundra and the start of colourful night skies... Finally a clear night for a quick snap of the northern lights over the browning tundra near Kugluktuk, Nunavut.

“Never lose an opportunity of seeing anything that is beautiful; for beauty is God’s handwriting on a wayside sacrament. Welcome it in every fair face, in every fair sky, in every fair flower, and thank God for it as a cup of blessing.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

These lights are above a streetcar stop on the new trolley line on University Avenue.

University Avenue, west of the University of Arizona's main campus, is the major food and beverage and clothing store center for U of A students, faculty, and visitors. I always find it exciting and enjoyable...:))

On my way to Zion National Park was for me breathtaking as well as inside the park, immense mountains of beautiful reddish rock formation vast green landscape blue semi cloudy skies, it was just amazing. I pulled over on my way and waited patiently for traffic to cleared and shot a couple of road type scene. Out of 3 clicks, this one IMO depicted a fraction of the beauty HW9 heading to Zion is.

The night herons are medium-sized herons, 58–65 cm, in the genera Nycticorax, Nyctanassa, and Gorsachius. The genus name Nycticorax derives from the Greek for “night raven” and refers to the largely nocturnal feeding habits of this group of birds, and the croaking crow-like call of the best known species, the black-crowned night heron.

In Europe, night heron is often used to refer to the black-crowned night heron, since it is the only member of the genus in that continent.

Adults are short-necked, short-legged, and stout herons with a primarily brown or grey plumage, and, in most, a black crown. Young birds are brown, flecked with white. At least some of the extinct Mascarenes taxa appear to have retained this juvenile plumage in adult birds.

Night herons nest alone or in colonies, on platforms of sticks in a group of trees, or on the ground in protected locations such as islands or reedbeds. 3-8 eggs are laid.

Night herons stand still at the water's edge, and wait to ambush prey, mainly at night. They primarily eat small fish, crustaceans, frogs, aquatic insects, and small mammals. During the day, they rest in trees or bushes.

There are seven extant species. The genus Nycticorax has suffered more than any other ciconiiform genus from extinction, mainly because of their capability to colonize small, predator-free oceanic islands, and a tendency to evolve towards flightlessness.

Night Herons breed mainly in southern and southeastern Europe and migrate across the Sahara to winter in central and west Africa.
