Working at the fringes of Image stabilization, trying to handhold this shot a 1/15th of a second. Without using a tripod, getting a shot in these dim subways while trying to capture motion blur always presents a challenge!

This is taken at home, in the barn across from my house.
In the barn we have 3 big roof lights that produce a serious amount of light. In this picture I just have 1 on and have sat directly below it.
I really like the end result.
my wife hates it.
This really was a unique church outside San Cristobal de las Casas. They treated coca-cola as holy water, took shots of mezcal and sacrificed chickens inside, but we were not allowed to take photographs.
In a heart-breaking end to the season, Calvary 2 played Custom Air for a chance to enter the playoffs of the Trumbull Mens After-Work League. After initially running up the score to 10-2 for Calvary 2, Custom Air came back and won the game 14-10 in the last inning. Thus ends the 2007 season for Calvary 2 Softball. It has been a year of some of the best play this team has ever produced, even if the win-loss ratio did not reflect it.
There are places I remember
All my life though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these places have their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I've loved them all

52 Weeks 2011 - Week 6 - Theme: In The Morning
I had an idea for this image for a few days and finally was able to find some time to shoot it. After taking a few test shots, it was a time to bring in mascara brush - that's when we noticed a mirror and face reflection in the pupil. I kind of like that touch. View large on black to see that reflection. Catch light is kind of big, but I think it defines shape of an eye very nicely.
Thanks to Yuliya for patiently posing for me while I was blasting strobe in her face. It wasn't easy to keep focusing on the pupil, our eyes tend to move most of the time and another thing that I've learned is that eyes look very freaky at 100% zoom.

Happy Caturday - The Supervisor
I went way back in the archives for this shot. A much younger Woody has everything under control. The mouse is pinned to the mouse pad and he is keeping an eye on me. He still has the same collar, but the green has worn off the bell. Happy Caturday!
some days i feel like i’m in the weeds, off my game, but then there’s an opening; an opening to insight, wonder, or creativity. an ordinary puddle can change my view in powerful ways.

Lake Almanor
Plumas County
California
From the 2018 archives
Lake Almanor was formed by Canyon Dam on the North Fork of the Feather River, which was completed in 1914. The lake has been a popular recreation area for more than a century.
Fire maps show the Dixie Fire burning all around Lake Almanor. This massive fire had grown to more than 320,000 acres and was 35% contained as of the morning of July 5, 2021. It is now the sixth largest fire in California history. It is already burning parts of Lassen National Park and has leveled one Gold Rush town.
The wildfires around the world are devastating, and we must act now!
Thanks, as always, for stopping by and for your kind comments, awards and faves -- I appreciate them all.

Backlit Image of an Orchard Swallowtail Butterfly - Papilio Aegeus (Female) flying towards my camera, capturing also a sort of water/nectar drop dripping/hanging from her proboscis.
My first time to capture one facing the camera this way.
I have wanted to try for this photo of ages and finally managed it. What I needed was the flower - a September bush ~ Myrtle-leaf milkwort flowers ~ Polygala myrtifolia at a height that allowed me to get in really close.
The only problem was that when I finally found one, the wind was playing games with me and the flower kept blowing everywhere.
Putting my back against that to protect the flower from moving too much, I think I finally managed it.
