In 2011 zetten verschillende cultuurhuizen in Antwerpen hun deuren open tijdens de nacht voor een unieke logeerpartij! Jongeren genieten er allereerst van een leuke voorstelling. Nadien krijgen ze een nooit geziene blik achter de schermen en worden ze getrakteerd op de spannendste en best bewaarde geheimen van het cultuurhuis. Een verhalenverteller sluit af en doet de lichten uit.
Elk cultuurhuis maakt plek voor ongeveer 20 jongeren tussen 12 en 15 jaar per SLEEP-IN.
Hiervoor gaan ze samenwerkingen aan met enkele jeugdorganisaties en scholen in Antwerpen.
Antwerpen Europese Jongerenhoofdstad 2011 en de cultuurhuizen willen op die manier jongeren een unieke eerste kennismaking met een cultuurhuis aanbieden. Een avondje theater of een dansvoorstelling bekijken is lang niet voor alle jongeren evident. Velen zijn nog nooit in een cultuurhuis geweest. AEYC2011 wil deze jongeren op een laagdrempelige manier laten kennismaken met een cultuurhuis en cultuurvorm waar ze anders spontaan nooit naartoe zouden gaan.
En hoopt uiteraard op een kennismaking die naar meer smaakt.
De Arenbergschouwburg bijt de spits af. Nadien is het de beurt aan De Roma, het Koninklijk Ballet van Vlaanderen, Het Paleis, het Toneelhuis/Bourla en de openlucht SLEEP-IN in het Middelheimmuseum en het Openluchttheater Rivierenhof.
