The Forth Bridge was opened in 1890, having been 8 years in the construction. It was started in the knowledge that, given the poor safety standards of the time, men would die in the process. At its peak, approximately 4,600 workers were employed in the bridge's construction.
As of 2009 it was recorded that 73 men lost their lives in accidents. A memorial on shore records their names and occupations.
Two new bridges have since been constructed nearby: The Forth Road Bridge and The Queensferry Crossing.
For me, this original bridge is the most 'handsome' and characterful. We visited on a late autumn evening and stayed for sunset. The gathering dusk gave a sombre and reflective mood.

In the summertime when the weather is hot
You can stretch right up and touch the sky
When the weather's fine
You got women, you got women on your mind
Have a drink, have a drive
Go out and see what you can find
If her daddy's rich, take her out for a meal
If her daddy's poor, just do what you feel
Speed along the lane
Do a ton or a ton and twenty-five
When the sun goes down
You can make it, make it good and really fine
We're no threat people, we're not dirty, we're not mean
We love everybody, but we do as we please
When the weather's fine
We go fishing or go swimming in the sea
We're always happy
Life's for living, yeah, that's our philosophy
Sing along with us, dee-dee dee-dee dee
Da doo da-da da, yeah, we're hap-pap-py
Da da da, dee da doo dee da doo da doo da
Da doo da-da da, dee da da dee da da

Sometime in the late spring when I was in Belgium I went to visit a friend around Antwerp and then I cycled there, camped in his garden and the day after back to Ghent by bike.
The great thing about this bike tour is that it runs along the railway line between Ghent and Antwerp.
Now I go back every now and then, work out the plan that was wandering in my head. Stay fit, by bike. always and everywhere.
After the previous series of an early cold morning I was back to photograph one of the Saturday night freight trains. A tanker train passed just in time before it started to get too dark. I got wet feet and it might be too blurry, but I was still satisfied, especially with the strip of red light on the side of those tankers.

The European robin (Erithacus rubecula) is a small, iconic UK bird, easily recognised by its bright red breast, territorial nature, and presence in gardens year-round.

In arte:
In senso figurato:

In the beauty, among the trees
Face caressed by the summer breeze
Hear the birds sing in the skies
See the clouds, float past your eyes
Walk between the spreading trees
Feel the lovely summer breeze
That falls upon your waiting face
As past you, beauty it does race

Pansies are the colorful flowers with the “faces.” In fact, they have one of the widest ranges of colors.
It's believed the flower was discovered in France because the word pansy comes from the French word "pansee," which means to remember. Violas and the wild pansy began getting crossed by flower breeders in the 1800s and many different varieties of pansies were available by 1850.
I've shot this tree in Summer and Winter before, and covered in snow. This is the first time in Autumn. Unfortunately it doesn't have the greatest of Autumn colour!
Bornean Keeled Green Pit Viper (Tropidolaemus subannulatus) - Danum Valley, Malaysia
A Bornean keeled green viper waits for prey along the banks of the Segama River, it stayed in the same area for several days just moving a few body lengths over the course of them. I wanted to get a wide angle shot showing off the area it was in, the angles were a tad bit tricky but I'm reasonably happy with this shot. It was very rewarding not to disturb this viper and come back and see it every day for a while.
Buon anno, amore mio ♥

In the Oklahoma Cross Timbers, winter brings the quiet arrival of the Harris’s Sparrow—the largest of North America’s sparrows and a genuine prairie traveler.
These birds journey south from Canada’s boreal forests, finding refuge in brushy edges and thickets where seeds and berries sustain them through the Oklahoma winter. Their soft whistles and clear notes drift across frosted oak leaves, adding a soft melody to winter stillness. Watching a Harris’s Sparrow forage in leaf litter or perch on icy branches is a testament to the resilience of one of our migratory winter birds
